Before I start, please keep in mind I own a Disco 2 V8 so I have very little knowledge about Td5 map files.
I have a mate with a Td5 Defender 110 and he has issues with his 15p engine. He thinks it needs a fresh map to sort it out. I have a map file stored on my Nanocom’s SD card from a 2004 G4 110 by a forum member who I helped use my Nanocom back in 2019. I lost contact with the owner of the G4 Td5 map to ask him for permission to use his Td5 map file.

My question is, can I use his map file that is saved on my Nanocom and use the file on another Defender?
Is it a no-no in the Land Rover community or is it a common practice to use other owner’s map files?
Thanks in advance.

It is generally frowned upon, however most map files are VIN locked anyway so could not just be put on any vehicle.
Also unless his problems started immediately after a remap it is highly unlikely to be a problem with any map. You can download the original standard map using the Nanocom Map Wizard if you wish to put it back to standard.

Thanks for the info @tom1979 . Being VIN locked makes sense for a map file.
I’ll tell my mate to keep on troubleshooting then. Lol

If you post some info on here we might be able to help, especially as you have a Nanocom.

As long as it's a factory map not one tuned for money it's no problem IMO but as Tom said if the engine started to have issues after it ran well before and nobody messed with the fuel map it's quite unlikely to be fixable with a remap
