Hi Guys,

Going to give my 01 plate TD4 a service, I have lost my Haynes

manual.

The car has 148.000 on the clock have you guys got any tips? especially about the fuel filter as from what I have seen it seems rather awkward.

Also were would you guys recmend to get the filter?

there are plenty of service kits on Ebay but get a good one . you need for a full service
1 air filter
2 oil filter
3 turbo vent filter
4 fuel filter
5 cabin filter (if it has one)
oil a good 10/40s
and while you are at it test you anti freeze .
check all brakes and disc's and back hubs
then check ird oil
and check gear box and back diff.
then check all tyres
lubricate door hinges and door's stay
check all lights as well
and when all that is done check you vcu, hope this helps

Replace crankcase breather filter too unless it's the bmw cyclone type fitted.

Thanks for the advice guys I have the filters on there way to me.

Could you point me in the direction of a good hot to guide, as I seem to have lost my haynes manual.

What is a good one? How can you tell?

They range in price from about £18 to £125 for a genuine one.

well I always say get the best you can afford but I certainly would not pay £125 as long as it is not the cheapest one you should be ok there are also a lot of car shops and at least you will not be paying postage .

i bought a bearmach kit, but insured i got a genuine oil filter and quality engine oil

genuine turbo vent filter was only a few quid, done the bmw crankcase filter a couple of years ago, when i checked it only needed a wipe out

if i may say check ur vacuum hoses as they can get holes in them , mine got them by the vacuum pump where it had touched the engine block

put a pic on here for u, can see the new ones next to the old pipes

???? never seen one,what does the turbo filter look like and where in turbo system do you find it?????

as u look at the engine it sits at the back of the engine on the left hand side

looks like a small fuel filter , has a paper element inside

One one end is not joined to anything.
(Behind the MAF) by the IRD breather.

Yep , thats what you need only thing I would change on that list is the oil, I was always under the impression that it was fully synthetic 5w/30. Please feel free to shoot my down if i'm wrong !!

I spoke to my local LR dealer.

They use/recommended Castrol 5/30 or 10/40. SEMI Synthetic (don't need fully on our old engines-it's a waste of money)

Or for a budget oil, Comma.

must admit, I always thought that the fully synthetic 5w/30 was a bit of an overkill for this engine. Mine still gets it every 6 months though. An advantage of working in an agricultural workshop. Cheap top quality oil

What do you use for catching the old oil? Not done this for a long time.

Last owner put a little hole in the undertray so job is easy. I use one of works oil kettles and put the waste oil in our oil recycling bin. Nice, clean and quick, perfect.

I use one of these then take it to the local council recycling place they have a tank to pour it in to.
