I'm just not a fan of the older style of auto boxes, and being an ex-biker I still like to play with heel/toe and clutchless changes, but I'd love to put a VW DSG gearbox into it, although I think that the cost would be terrifying even if I did as much of the work as a small machine job would allow.
As far as stronger is concerned though, I like to think that my refurbed R380 is as more or less as strong as the rest of the drivetrain. Following @jamesmartin 's advice I tracked down a K suffix, which is the best of the variants. One of the more interesting jobs will be sorting out the best lever linkage for it, and I really really love what Köenigsegg do with some of theirs...
Anyway, the Jaguar V12 wasn't exactly famed for fuel economy - and this car is going to not only weight more than an XJ12, but the aeros are really going to ensure that I'll have to save up for a month before starting it, let alone using more than 20hp!
Actually, as I wrote this I've realised that what I'd really want is a strong CVT box so that I can drive everywhere at 3,000rpm pretending that I'm flying a Spitfire with a Merlin.
