ok so got under it today and had a good grub about. flushed the rad with proper rad flush stuff refilled the coolant and no change, guage just sits on the edge of the red, put a thermometer in the top of the rad and had it running for 30 mins watching it 65-67c constant, is this normal?
when finished assuming it was normal i went for a quick drive (couldnt ressist it) and yes when it rains you get wet, i had some warm air squirt in briefly and that was great till it stopped (heater fan fault)
changed all oils filters ect stuck some injector cleaner in the tank and the smoke is gradually getting thinner and less blue.
all that remains is a clean, paint, towbar to be fitted, wiring to sort out, stop lever fixing, wiper arm putting back on and a bit of welding on the door. i did read that all landys are an ongoing project so i guess im doing it tomorrow. pics will be posted when i finish.

The steering is an easy fix, change all six ball joints, they are as cheap as chips. change the oil in the steering relay (assuming there's some in it), and the steering box, and then lastly take up any slack at the adjuster on the steering box. Your temprature thing sounds like the sender is bolloxed.
