Hi chaps, id say i was new on here still as i joined in 2011 but havent really been on much since then.back then i had a freelander, sold that then got a disco, then sold that then got a defender 90 csw, now iv got a 04 disco as it more suits my needs than the defender, iv also just bought a 1982 series 3 csw in russet brown.
witch leads me to this post.
im going to do a full restoration on it, well should i say me and a friend whos worked on land rovers for a long time, its going on a galvanized chassis, and a full re-spray, as well as all the galvanized bits re-galvanized, engine, axles, and all other bits shot blasted powder coated or painted, basically im wanting it to be mint,
work is underway at the moment with me just stripping it down, all panels are pretty straight apart from one door that will probably be replaced,
im sure i will have plenty more questions to as you knowledgeable guys, but for now i was just wondering where some good sites were to get some parts from, i know there's plenty out there but im strugling to find a new head lining, as its the csw its a bit different from most or the ones i can find, the one i have isnt that bad but not good enough really, and the seats are all ok, or will be after they have been cleaned, only thing i do need its the plastic backing door one of them, cant find one of them either,
also all the nuts and bolts are rusty or grinded off so is there such a thing as a full set of nuts and bolts or is it a case of just buying a few of the sets iv seen and making it up for the rest, also the wiring didnt look that good so i chopped most of it when i was stripping it all down, so is there a wiring kit i can buy that has every single wire that id need, hopefully iv included some pictures of before i started and where i am now.
thanks for any answers/help in advance.

your chassis doesn't look too bad in the photo, if it is solid, maybe just get it galv'ed, be cheaper than a new chassis

Auto jumble is a good place to pick up nuts bolts fastening, chequered plate panels etc! Theres one on at Newark I think on the 20th of this month about an hour and a half drive for you BUT its brilliant so many stalls tools lights the list is endless its one of the places I used during my series 3 restoration you're going to have a lot of fun

thanks for the replies guys, i will check them websites out. the chassis looks like its had a new back half, but the front isnt in good nick, its got patches on patches, out riggers are (not sure if swear words are ok on here) so i will say very bad, so i think its best to just get a new one, plus when it comes to selling it a new galvanized chassis will sound better.
thanks.

Looks good, what's the plan with paint etc... Are you planning on going back to original colour? I like the brown its rare to seem them especially here in Ireland

Hi
I am just finishing the same model but changed the colour to grey as it had been painted white by a previous owner (badly).
the head liner I managed to spray in a PVC paint and now looks OK, Their is many parts out their but most of mine came from e bay or paddocks. Good luck with the rebuild

Looks like a tidy truck to start with, I think you will struggle to find a headlining though so look after the one you have.
LaSalle trim do a fiberglass headlining but the are very pricey by the time carriage is added to the cost.
Most vehicle trimmers can fit a headlining but it will not look standard and you will need deep pockets.

A DIY headlining isn't hard to do and you can up the speck a bit to improve sound transmission. Im about to start mine. Its having a layer of flashband, a layer of 10mm EVA foam with a foil backing, a layer of 10mm upholsterers foam and finished with cream suede. The rim will be clad in foam pipe lagging and covered in suede.

yes doing it in the original colour russet brown, some one has sprayed this a shade lighter brown,
i know a bloke who does re trims on car seats so maybe he can make me one, or smarten mine up.
thanks.

try autosparks for the loom and lr fasteners iirc can supply bolts etc for a whole truck no idea on the head lining though, I should imagine someone like Exmoor trim would be a good starting point.

just looked on lr fasteners, looks just what im after, iv emailed them, i emailed auto sparks 2 week ago about a wiring kit and told them i needed the full lot, never got a reply form them.

thanks.

that's Huddersfield land rover, iv contacted them to see what they were doing with it, he said it was pretty decent but needed tidying up and a new paint job,
mine should be worth a good £20k if there price is anything to go on, :D:D
i was after some original pictures from when they were new.
thanks.

they do seem over the top, but it suits me, and they are mostly full restorations, as a novice iv no idea in the costs of total mint re-builds, but i guess im going to find out,
managed to bet bulkhead, engine and gear box out today with my brother.
