Hi there everyone im sorry to be a pain but ive just got a good 2.5na diesel engine to put back in my landy, ive swapped clutch engine mounts etc but just couldnt get engine to mate up with gearbox any suggestions tips would be much appreciated cheers steve:confused:

have you checked theres no dowels or excess studs series boc bellhousing is a tight fit and does need gear box hold up firmly and engine pushing up square to it ,removing engine mounts helps

Thanks for the quick reply mate ive removed rubber engine mounts to get engine a bit lower, had gearbox wedged up but when trying to push engine towards box it kept dropping hope this was my problem cheers.

Just keep trying... Jack the box up, Mess about with levelling the engine. Then when your really ****ed off it usually just drops straight in and laughs at you.

Hi there i dont have a clutch aligning tool so i just centred the best i could, looks to be in the centre.Hope this will be ok.

You will mess about all day if it aint centred. It only has to be a baw hair out, also try turning the engine/gearbox slightly as the splines have to match up as well.

Another possibility is that youve got an imperial gearbox bellhousing and the 2.5 N/A will be metric which the treads are a tiny bit too big my bellhousing had to be drilled for a 110 2.25 petrol, let us know how you get on

Helped someone from this forum who had the same problem yesterday (albeit a 200tdi). The clutch plate was out of line so we sorted that with an alignment tool i had made up a few years ago.
The wading plug on the flywheel housing was also catching on the gearbox crossmember so just jacked the 'box up a bit. Check for that too.
After that it went in ok

cheers for the help guys as for the studs being too big i havent even got that close yet i will keep you all informed,i have a mate coming this morning to give me a hand easier with two people.
