I have a 1958 88" Series 1 that has got a homemade bulkhead that has no footwells.

I bought it as an abandoned project.

I have found Series 1 54-58 footwell repair panels at Craddocks but they are nearly £100 plus postage for a pair.

However, eBay is littered with repair panels for later vehicles for a lot less money, as little as £20 a side.

My question is apart from the preformed holes for the brake and clutch pedals, is there a difference between the Series 1 and later ones ?

In other words can I fit the Series 2/3 onto my truck, are they the same basic dimensions ?

Thanks but these are the same kind of money as Craddocks by the time you add the VAT.

I only want to know if the later ones fit.

The ones on ebay are only £20 and they are plentiful.
 
The later series versions are wider than the series one so I guess that's a reason why the body parts aren't easy to transfer...
 
There was a company making footwells where the side plates where provided loose which might make it easier to adapot to series 1 .
Why not Join the series 1 forum as they are more likely to be able to supply dimensions of the bulkhead and footwells.
 
Yes I did. Thought that they did series obviously not S1 then.
I bought quite a bit of stuff from them for my series 2a - I'm not sure how it will all fit. They were helpful enough but I did get some parts that obviously weren't made in house which was the impression I got before I paid...

YRM don't do much Series 1 stuff and both Radford Bulkheads and Classic Bulkheads can't be bothered to answer the phone.

Have tried them both for days on landline and mobile.

I guess they have so much work they don't need new customers :)

Craddocks are out of stock for a month but they did confirm what some of you say that panels off other vehicles don't fit the Series 1 54-58.

Sigh.

There's another company - SP - I think in Liverpool (I sit to be corrected) perhaps they can help?

Otherwise you're best off getting a sheet metal bender and bashing out a few for yourself!
 
I remember a tool from the school metalwork rooms that I wish to god I knew the name of. It was a sheet bender. It was a strip of steel about 25mm x 10mm folded in half with a hoop at the end. You just slipped the panel between the strips and wound it into a vice. Just a case of belting it over.

Logrover made his own sheet metal bender cannot find it on his website but pic below , I am confident he will not mind me sharing it.

Several ready made sheet metal benders are also out there.

Frosts (usually a bit on the expensive side so shop around) have this for fitting in a vice =>

I also have a slightly more complicated folding machine with removable fingers to allow you to fold next to folds (make boxes)

I've fiddled about with making my own bending machine and it all comes down to the strength of hinges in my opinion - clamping angle iron to tables and bending by bashin' with a hammer is also possible but the clamping is crucial - hammering makes things move! If the clamped angle iron wanders then the edge is a mess...
 
I ended up buying some nice Series 2/3 ones off ebay for silly money about £60 for the pair delivered next day.

I was blown away, galvanized and spot welded.

Although I have a Series 1 88, they suited me perfectly as I have no proper bulkhead and had made the decision to fit Series 2/3 pedals etc.

As you can see the brake pedal was in the way of the steering column so I had to move it to the right a bit, the accelerator is going to be a tight fit but hey ho its a bitza what can you expect, might just trim some of the brake pedal off to gain an inch or so.

Job done, just need to fabricate the rest of the bulkhead - I feel some cardboard and scissor action coming on.
