Hello chaps, a little advice needed.
95 DSE.
Was on the way out tonight, fired the Rangy up & "Select Neutral" flashed up for a split second, thought no more of it. Drove for about 15mins then there was a smell of Electrical burning so pulled over had a good look around & couldn't find anything wrong so carried on with it driving fine.
The Doris dropped me off & went home, got a call about 30mins later after stopping at the Shop saying "Select Neutral" was flashing up & all the lights next to the Gear Selector were flashing but it still drives fine, told her to take it home & I'll have a look tomorrow.
So before I get the Nano out tomorrow & have a shufty what are your thoughts.
I don't think Voltage is the issue, it's got twin red tops & a six month old Alternator charging at 14.3v, I drive it to work on a Monday & it sits all week till I get back on a Friday & never fails to start.
I have done a search & found nothing conclusive with these symptoms so for the moment I'm stumped.

Spanners I'm good with, electrics is another matter, but I am learning.
I appreciate your comments.

Transfer box ecu if I remember correctly there is updated version with heat sink

+1.....

Transfer ECU is a common fail item...

I'd check your shift motor too, to make sure it hasn't seized...as sometimes a seized TB Motor can fry the ECU

Cheers Fanny & Saint, twas the Transfer box ECU ever so slightly burnt I'd say, see Piccys.
The part number is AMR5254, does anyone know what the number is for the updated ECU for a 95DSE Auto so I can order one.

It still drives fine even with the ECU removed, going to get one of the lads at work to check & clean the TB Motor this week, will driving it to work in the morning do any damage (only 15 miles).

Not off hand part number wise, but if you can't find it on here- rangerovers.net another place to look

Can't find anything on Rangerovers.net either.
Anyone else got any idea what the updated part number is before I order the wrong one.

Same unit as you AMR5254 have had select neutral up since bought car as an overhaul project non runner. Mozz smith and dogsbody helped me get it running in first few days of owning it. I had a mystery green light flashing on number 3 on gear selector. Took out ecu today and burnt real bad just like yours. I'm going to give the upgrade a go at £25 it's got to be worth a pop. I've ordered one hopefully it will solve problem. I will let you know

Hi Taximan,
Which updated ECU have you ordered, it seems that AMR6459 is the one to go for from what little info there is available.

I've gone for the AMR6459 like you say it seems best one. Although it looks bigger I'm hoping it will fit
Hadn't really noticed that, still I've got a big hammer to make it fit if it is a little on the large size. :D
Managed to pick one up for £21.50 delivered off the Bay, so not too expensive really.

+1 regarding the motor being seized, not saying its not the ecu, mine kept saying select neutral, unplugged the transfer box motor cleaned all the dust out of the connectors and tapped the motor with a mallet whilst my assistant shifted it across the h gate. No problems since.

Rollo tomasi yep cheap enough got mine on the bay should be here tomorrow.

Gazza understand the possibilities of motor seize. But the ecu circuit board was burnt black bit of a give away really.

Which can be because the Motor is seized....as I posted earlier!

The Power to the motor is delivered via the ECU...if the motor is seized, it could burn out the ECU!

Just to let you know yesterday I fitted new transfer box motor and also transfer box ecu. Reconnected battery. Yippee no more select neutral message and it works high and low gears. I still have a rouge light lit on number 3 on gear selector so I'm assuming that's the h gate unit may change it sometime as I have a spare.

But good news select neutral gone. Just airbag fault message to sort now.

Glad your sorted Taximan, I'm not having the same success.
Had the Transfer Box Motor checked at work this week, the lad said it "looked ok ish", put the new ECU in today & still have Select Neutral on the Display.
Looks like a new Transfer Box Motor then.
