So I need the 4 brake hoses replaced as Landrover independent says they are badly corroded!

Seems to think that the brake lines may be damaged when the hoses are removed and thus may need replacing. The quote was over £900!

What do people think?

Rubber hoses do not corrode, they perish, maybe that is bull****. Usually the actual rear brake lines fail first on the P38. Couple of hours work and a few quid for the pipe, plus the flexibles unless they want to drop the tank. a garage should be happy to do it for £200/300.:)

Could be the metal crimp's corroded but they are still way out on price. Name them as a warning to others, probably thought a woman on her own without realising how big her gang is.:)

But she drives a p38 - not a mini??:confused::D

And I thought my memory was bad, Rachel posted a while ago that she was thinking of getting shut of the p38 and getting a Mini. I asked for photo's of her wearing it (play on words, you see?) So I was joking again, understand?:rolleyes::D:D knob:D:D

Ah - now its all explained I can laugh out loud;):D:D

Your local I'll check them for you iv
just done all my discs n pads for about 150 my hoses were all good they either work or they don't think there trying it on

Rach the terminal ends on rubber brake hoses can get rusty but i have NEVER seen one fail because of rust. They would need to be virtually falling apart to be a problem. Someone is taking the **** if that is what they are on about.

The metal ends of the brake flexible hoses are called ferrules.

These can corrode quite well, and if the corrosion gets too much, it can restrict the internal diameter of the brake hose. This will not atop you applying the brakes - but can prevent the return of the brake fluid when you let go of the brake. this will cause binding and wear your brakes out more quickly.

Excessively corroded ferrules is an MOT fail - but excessive in MOT terms means REALLY bad.

Sometimes where the brake pipes join the corrode together thus replacing the leading metal pipes to you rubber hoses so yes if the long metal pipes have corroded at the joins then there is a lot of work to replace the brake line system dealer prices estimate is about right .
