Idea for moderators or some one with power, can we have a section only accessible to members, or senior members, so we can talk things like security and green lanes without the worry of everyone under the sun finding out ?

There already is one.;)

I just bought a Disclock.

Are these worth fitting or can the thieves get past them as quickly as you can take it off with the key?

A mate of mine had some problems with the lock on his. Took him 5 - 10 mins to cut through it with a hack saw

Well l guess it is better than nothing then, few security devices resist attack for more than five minutes these days.

I gave up on such things, largely because I got so ****ed off with the damn thing rolling around in the car all the time, always seemed to be in the way.

You put on a visible deterrent and all that they do is check it out and then come back later prepared for that deterrent (assuming that they aren't already). You put any nice stickers on it saying tracker etc fitted is just another way of saying you need to be a little smarter about stealing me and if it has a brand name they even know where to start because those assholes always fit the stuff in the same places and leave the same tell tales. You put on high security locks they put a centre punch to the window. You put on an invisible protector / immobiliser of some sort and they do massive damage looking for it and nothing stops then stealing **** off the outside.

It's all swings and roundabouts.

A lot of prevention lies within the Landrover community itself, people need to be a lot more questioning about where these almost new doors, bulkheads, engines, gearboxes, axles etc etc are coming from ... all the major **** on my car is now coded, if everyone did the same then when WE go to buy stuff we can look for those codes and report the individuals concerned when we find them - only when WE stop buying the bits the thieves sell will they move on to some other venture - they aren't stealing these cars to drive in 99% of the cases - it all ends up abroad or on ebay as spares.

A good deterrent is the smartwater/alphadot type security marking systems as it does allow the cops to trace marked articles back to the original owner and also link the theft to the vehicle. I've etched the reg number into all of the glass too with a cheap kit off ebay - there was a thread on here a while back about people having their doors stolen but the cops couldn't link the doors to the thefts - etching might just get your door back. It would also stop them changing the reg plate unless they changed all of the glass too.

I think of security as a layered approach - just to make it too much hassle for them so they go and find something easier ;)

this is a great long term solution but i bet people want the bargain that going to be the hardest part to change.

Probably worth remembering that thieves don't have to be able to start your Defender in order to nick it. Mine was apparently pushed off the drive, and then, I reckon, towed away. It had a decent immobiliser on it, so although I'm not 100%, I think it would have been easier for them to just tow it away in the early hours.

Snap off steering boss. Take the steering wheel with you, cant be driven if it cant steer!

Very visual too. Though wont stop it being trailored or lifted onto a low loader.

When I go away with my family I box the Landy in with a Range Rover, BMW and gates so pretty hard.

Helps to have a 12G Shotgun near by and a crossbow!

Or any landy come to that, thats why I have two of these

Anti Ram Bollard

blocking access to my driveway.

Number 1 you can't get a car past them, number two you can't open my gates without removing them, you sure as **** won't be able to remove them quietly and then there is my perimeter alarm and secret squirrel to deal with. That only leaves the public places to worry about and I never park it in same place too often when out - leastways not in a way that can be predicted - an old habit from the Evo days ...

You should check with the local police about smart water. Derbyshire did an event where they gave you it for free and helped to advise on the marking points. I think they are getting tired of them being nicked too.

If Derbyshire Police are "tired of them getting nicked" why don't they chuffin' well make some more efforts to catch the thieves? One a week going from round here at the moment.

Totally agree, mine is garaged every night, never leave it outside now

It really sounds like it is getting bad over in England, I have not been back in a while. Fortunately for me I have my concealed carry weapons permits here in the U.S and pack my Glock pretty much where ever I go.

Was in Houston recently, love the Texan attitude when it comes to thieves - shoot to kill.

That is why your car theft rate(UK) is over twice of the USA.
