hi all

I was just wondering what seats everyone puts in there series land rovers?

I have a series 2a that I intend on putting back on the road that has the old school cushion seat pads, and they’re not exactly comfortable!
I also have the challenging factor that I am 6.3...so space is a premium!

Thanks for any suggestions.

I had Ford Fiesta seats in mine but the gap between seat and steering wheel is reduced. It was ok for me but they started falling to bits so I went back to Land Rover seats. They are more practical being vinyl covered and just as comfortable as the Fiesta seats, plus they are easily removed. The Fiesta seats always seemed damp being cloth covered. No regrets in fitting the Land Rover seats.

I find the seats in my series very comfortable. Lots of cushioning. Though i have an underseat fuel tank so i can't mess about too much.

Standard seats are comfortable and probably take up less space than any other options. Defender style seats are an easy fit, but even these are bigger.

Great things said about smart car seats I just wouldn’t pay the price for em. Even though I only wanted tatty ones as I was reupholstering them anyway.

I found that series 3 seats [ called "deluex" option at one time ] are better than 90/110 defender types. I think early 90/110's may have had them as well.

mine are deluxe seat bottoms and basic backs. Can confirm. Comfy as hell. £168 on paddocks. For a wooden square with some sponge isn't terribly cheap though.

I have deluxe versions in my series and I would disagree that they are very comfortable. They take the comfort levels to church pew rather than bed of nails. But are not what I would call comfortable. They are very very firm. Although I have not fitted them to a series so cannot comment of how much space they take up I really like the standard defender seats. And have several times spent 3/4 days in a row driving 750 miles a day with no complaints. I don’t know why everyone is so keen to get rid of them. However as already started they are larger than series seats so not sure how much room they would leave.

Seatbox and footwells are slightly different. But total space is similar. Series and Defender doors are interchangeable, so the opening is the same. Not sure if the centre bulkhead is slightly different too.

I'm also 6'3, poss even 6 4 and fitting reupholstered defender seats in mine. There is F all room with the series seats so it won't be much different in terms of space. I'm also fitting a smaller steering wheel for a bit more leg room

The cab space from main bulkhead to center half bulkhead is the same in both series 109 and 90/110 Defender. However in a series 88 it is about 4 inches less.

CHeers for all the info guys. I’m glad I’m not the only one who suffers!
I did see the deluxe seats and thought they looked quite comfy. As for defender seats though, they’re so bloody expensive!

Been a while since I was looking but got a rough set at a show for £20 two years ago after mine burnt out and replaced them for £100 with a very good second handset. Have prices really changed that much since then?[/QUOTE]

When I was looking there were some people asking silly amount for them. Bordering on what you could get new ones for from exmoor. But these never sold and just kept getting readvertised. I had to wait until a decent set came up from an individual rather than a business.

I ended up getting three tired seats for less than £100, although I spent quite a while scanning eBay, here and Gumtree. Lucky I did end up with three in the end as one of them was completely bent

My seats are completely unpractical but comfy once your in. I got some aftermarket ones that had been in a defender but I had to reupholster them. They didnt cost much but try to remove ones taters when exiting. Id advise anyone not to get bucket type bases with sides on.

****ing hell! I thought a bit of leather on the steering wheel might be a bit OTT :D

I'm not a fan of the diamond stitching but the brown leather looks great. Workmanship looks middling to average :D:D:D

‘‘Twas my first attempt at dressmaking and done with a hand powered singer sewing machine so I was very pleased with the results. That bleedin diamond stitching takes for ever but provides all directional protection so is very practical if a bit evoke.esque.

Oh and its Angoran virgin yak. Bleedin leather
