Finished exams early and took the advice of @Shimsteriom and partook in a bit of r&r with the angle grinder :D

After a few measurements and using a length of threaded bar it's time to make the first cut :eek:

Removed the old plate that had been bodged on

Then offered the new dumb iron

Plenty of cut off disks in stock:D

Tomorrow I'll get the welder out and tidy the chassis up and do a better job of replacing the thinner steel and weld the new dumb iron on then do the other side :D

Why are those discs disintegrating like that? Too much pressure?
 
Thought so, look 2nd hand. Talking of h&s, you probably know but using a worn down 9" disc in a 4" grinder is apparently,, different speeds and such.
Sorry my bad, they're the correct size for the grinder but one of them got pinched between the metal I was cutting. The metal was about 5mm where I was removing the plate
