Towbar on the Freelander has two electric sockets; a white one and a black one, I'm not planning on towing and might even remove the tow bar, but why two?
Black (road lights) goes to a connector behind the drivers side rear boot panel, it can just be unplugged from the cars wiring loom. The grey one will prob`ly be wired in to the car ignition circuit and to the battery via a relay etc, not so straight forward but not too difficult. Dunno why you would want to take the towing gear off though, people expect LR`s to be used for towing..and you never know when it might come in handy. It also takes a big part of the impact should you get rear ended in traffic...this has happened to me on two occasions, both times no damage whatsoever to my car but expensive damage to the front end of the other cars
