I have a 1980 SWB 2.25 non-overdrive diesel Santana that is currently in the UK that I plan to get renovated this year. I’ve only actually seen the car once but I do have lots of photographs of it from all angles.

The renovation/restoration is going to cost a lot as I’m having to get a company to do the work for me so I want to make sure I invest in the right things.

I have new body panels (complete front and rear wings, door skins, etc.) and a new interior for the vehicle so these will all be replaced along with giving the car a full respray.

If anyone has any thoughts or experience on fitting an overdrive to a Santana gearbox or replacing it for a 5 speed I’d be interested to hear from you. I will be doing some long motorway journeys in the car so would like some top end cruising speed without being deafened by the engine noise.

Welcome. As posted try the series forum. Saying that I wouldn't expect more than 55mph from a period series gearbox with an overdrive; they're very low geared compared to modern gearboxes. Made for driving in a pre motorway era.
