lol, you bad boy I dont often rev mine to 3.5k normally :p

Glad you found the leak and you are right about it all, make sure its a waxstat thermostat which is OEM IIRC, eard of a few ****part ones not working from new recently

Well well indeed.

The leak has only gone and fixed itself, at this point in time!

No coolant about the place and header tank level not dropped since top up couple of days ago.

Not looking forward to an awkward job so will keep an eye on it. Got a QH thermo which is OEM at least...

Also got a new engine mount rubber today and front prop UJ, getting back to normal tasks again!

Soon will be time to get the CO meter out and see how she's running!

Thanks for the help fett :)

Ps.

Replaced 4 pushrods on my dads 300 today. Timing belt idler failed catastrophically about 6 months ago and slipped belt.

Ran sweet as a nut after second new belt went on (belt idler failed after 20 minutes of fitting it) so we assumed it was ok.

Took rocker cover off to replace gasket today. Decided to check clearances whilst in there. Removed glow plugs to relieve compression. Tested whilst out, 1 dead so was replaced. Then noticed the clearance on valves 2, 3, 6, 7 (iirc) was about 10mm!!!

How the **** did this engine do a 250 mile round trip for me to pick up the new v8 and run so nicely and economically?!?!

Checked and yes the pushrods were like Quavers!

Rocker gear off and replaced 4 at £3 +vat each.

So after asking me "can you just nip up the rocker cover on mine" it turned into £11 rocker gasket, £10 glow plug, £15 for pushrods!

Blummin' eck!! :D

Don't geddit :(

Am I not old enough?!?! :p

cheeky buggar:eek:

Christine was that Stephen King film where the car was possessed and fixed itself...big american chevy or summat like that.
You should watch it...it's a good film, if a little dated;)

he probs is a bit younger than us joe, just a bit mind lol

a guy in the 2 door club had a 300 ****part oem belt kit fail and it was a full head off nev valves job so you did ok noisy.

I expect that leak has corroded shut already :p

I expect the same!! :D

'Kin marvellous!

Regards the belt kit, yeah I mean it is remarkable it was running with so much play, truly remarkable. Lucky that the pushrods seem sacrificial it maybe it was low revs that saved it, high rev failure would probably be a different outcome!

I will stick that film on my blockbuster list!!

Cheers :)

if you need any help fiberglassing I am your man, its part of my day job lol.

keep your eye on ebay and random searches and see what takes your fancy bud- like you say you have lots of time.

I know lot of people are struggling to get parts for the rv8 that arnt ****e- even supposed genuine ones. I would try (and will when the time comes) LR direct and tell them its gotta be good quality stuff. I know a guy who got genuine rover lifters off ebay and they didnt even work when bench tested

Fett, what dizzy caps n rotors are you running? I've got powerspark ones in the bobtail and they've been great.....so on the strength of that the ones I ordered and fitted last weekend to the wifes Rangie were crap. Same box, supposed same parts, but it was coughing and spluttering all over the place. So, as a last ditch effort I dug out a britpart one from the back of the shelf and to my shock the thing worked!:confused:....was a pleasant suprise, although the old worn cap n rotor have been put in the boot and not thrown away (just in case!)

iv got gen ones on atm as i bought them just before the quality went down the pan. i think they are all made in te same factory now and its a **** factory

Bugger. Maybe best trying to source parts through trade avenues, rather than Internet or britpart type suppliers.

Halfords will use a quality supplier, intermotor stuff is usually quality, etc etc. see what euro car parts, German Swedish and French car parts and Halfords are offering...

lol, halfrauds just get in there bits from camberly autofactors unless its actually branded halfrauds. not sure on intermotor- most people say avoid, so I have I know the p6 boys are not convinced by them. I have been collecting up all the old ones I get and cleaning them up as they are probably better than new genuine ones- much like your rocker gear on that new engine noisy!

:)

Yep true say fett! The rocker gear (when we stripped it all down to put it together correctly :D) was just fine, I wouldn't have been replacing that with new **** made of cheese any time soon!

It's just a case of finding a parts supplier that just so happens to supply a decent brand of ignition parts.

I'm still running a "supposedly" genuine set which came from Dingocroft I think.

Tbh cap seems similar to all but the very worst blue caps I've seen, although the rotor is noticeably better than the cheapos. Don't think it's genuine genuine Lucas though!!!

When I need one (hopefully never) I'll be speaking to Euro, GSF, our local factors called SAS, and maybe Land Rover to see what they say.

No point buying from Britpart or Bearmach IMO because they are shoyte. What about Allmakes PR2???

Will also be going to Halfords to have a look at the quality, might look ok!!

:)

I would say allmakes pr2 might be your best bet. I like allmakes stuff and the OEM stuff has been good for me so far. I would also say bosch becuase they are OEM for my bmw and all the bits have been good but it seems as soon as you get it near a landy the parts are ****e, I bought some bosch leads for the 4 door and they were arcing like a goodun and it ran rough for example. I think there is a big factory in china that makes all rv8 then it is graded and sent out accordingly and over the years its just been getting worse and worse

It's enough to make me cry when I think of all the services parts I have thrown away simply because it was TIME to replace them....yeah, I think slightly worn quality parts are better than some of the **** I've bought the last couple years and put straight in the bin when the car runs like crap right after the service!

it all started downhill about a year after the gen caps went to black plastic like the ****part ones and not blue

yeah the LR ones did- a darker blue than those real chep ones. then ****part did black ones and a litte while later the LR ones became black too. hmmmm

about a year later they got really **** apparently

riiiiiiight. yep i know what you mean about the colour difference, in fact that means that i now have two genuine caps in stock i think, cos i have a dark blue one that i pinched off another v8 discovery that i bought to pinch the air lockers out of, ended up swapping one of my black caps onto it for no apparent reason, and the engine i just bought (sd1) has got a dark blue cap on it also. wonder if theres a lucas arm in there aswell???

blatently LR started getting their caps off the same supplier as britpart...

thanks for the info dude :)

no worries, the blue ones need to say lucas on them to be gen LR IIRC, I have been buying them up on old dizzys too now new ones are so ****e. I am running the old p6 style pre 76 dizzys and front cover you see which is great becuase no one wants them :D
