My Disco has a Safari Snorkel but appears not to have an air filter fitted, not got I would have thought.

Does it have foam filter somewhere in the tubing that I have not yet found?

the usuly have a grill up top to block out large objects, and then they just attach to your std air filter box.
 
I fitted a Safari snorkel to mine 96 300 TDi.

Grille at the top of the tube, which then runs down the 'A' piller, and through the front wing. From there it takes some crazy three sides of a square route into your airbox, where-upon you should have your (panel) air filter? Or in your case, seemingly not.

So if you don't have an airbox, what happens with the tubing after it has gone through your front wing?


TBH if that was my Disco, I'd be having a good look around to see what else has been bodged on it.
 
i brought a up to date air box, cost me 10 quid, but that was a mega bargin. but u can probly get 1 for 30 notes and it has bette air flow. look for induction kit.
 
I've fitted a standard air box now so the snorkel is redundant at the moment.

Where would I buy/get the tubing to go from the snorkel, that currently terminates just inside the wing, to the intake to the std airbox?

Or, did the snorkel come with a modified air box?

I don't do any off roading but have to go through 6" deep puddles after heavy rain so the snorkel when properly plumbed would be an advantage.

6" puddles.....you could do that in a standard freelander.......then again the doors might fall off

Do I need a mod'ed airbox or re-plumb the original?

My 6" puddles I hit at 50 mph 'cos they occur at acoss an elevated ridge and until I sort the auxillary lighting I don;t see 'em. The car just slows down (a tad) and I can't see out of the feckin' screen 'cos it's swamped.

The pic in the attachment shows the safari parts .. it comes with the almost L-shaped part on the left that you attach to a standard (modified) airbox .. basically you cut a square out of the box and attach the part with silicone seal .. ;)

You'll find they're made of unobtainium unless you're dead lucky, as safari don't sell them separately!

Personally I'd buy a waterproof in-line airfilter and plumb it in between the safari outlet inside the engine bay and to the standard airbox pipe to the turbo ...

TBH, 6" of water would be fine in my renault Laguna and no issue at all for any Landrover without the snorkel at all.

My safari snork din't come with them bits It just fastens straight to the airbox, but it is a 200tdi,

that pic looks like the kit i got for my V8, the easiest thing to do is buy a BMC or CDA enclosed air filter off ebay and a bit of flexi pipe, something like 80mm diameter and then fix it all together
