my disco is going for a mot but the tailpipe has a small hole in the side of it is that an mot failiure and could i get away with putting a chrome cover over the pipe

Yeah it will fail, dunno if it would fail with cover on it.
If it were me i'd replace it, saves spending the money on a cover, and chances are it get more holes in it. mine was a right state before i changed it, it had loads of holes on the section above the axle, prob a foot long with holes and a small section missing.

there is no reason why it should fail if its only the end of the tail pipe. I would put a chrome piece over it and get my monies worth out of it. you can allways swap it over when you do finally fit a new exhaust. good luck. Beni

the tail pipe, in the eyes of the law is not part of the exhaust system, and therefore not an mot failure.

how far back is the hole if its right at the end maybe u could just chop it off and neeten it up a bit?

its quit far back, im only looking for it to pass the mot as i will replace it in a couple of weeks as im waiting to find out what its going to cost to get the abs light to stay out and it is on the end after the back box the rest of it is ok:eek:

took the disco for mot the other day it failed but not on much, i put a steel sleeve on the tail pipe and it worked but they found a couple of small holes elsewhere on the exhaust where it goes over the rear axle and a panard bush was warn and a headlight needed adjusted so just waiting on the exhaust to be delivered does anybody know if there is a gasket between the down pipe and the exhaust as the the hole thing is 1 piece after the down pipe. thanks

the only gasket is downpipe to manifold, no other gaskets but you could put a smear of exhaust paste on the joints just to help it seal. good luck, Beni
