Alright people, I'm making some new sills for my 300tdi soon and am wondering about how to protect against rust. They will be box sills so I am wondering how I would go about doing the inside.

So I'm after 2 things,
1 how I will be able to do the inside.
2 what I need to buy to do it.

I'm no expert by any means but would it not make more sense to seal them than to try and paint the inside of them? Otherwise the only thing I can really think of is getting them dipped professionally.

If u keep em dry Nd when you fit them you paint the outside and wax oil or tetraseal then they wont rust from inside out they will be fine

If you seal them completely you'll get condensation inside. I'd advise a couple of holes in the bottom sealed with rubber grommets. remove grommets and spray waxoil in there using a lance or a length of thin tubing with a load of holes drilled in it. then replace grommets and remove occasionally & flush with an hosepipe. before spraying more waxoil in there.

But to be honest by the time the box section has rusted thru. the rest of the disco will have rotted around it..

If you make them tight, you can drill a hole and put some diesel/oil in there then plug weld the hole back up and then paint. The oil inside will stop interior rust

That's a fair point to be honest I don't know how long the rest will last for. I will just leave it open i don't go off roading so when I wash it I will give it a squirt inside.

Another question then will wax oil just be ok on the outside of it is it worth getting anything else on it?

Thanks Danny

If the oil has no water content?? And if he doesn't blow himself up attempting to weld a container ful of flammable liquids

a 1/4" hole then a pint or 2 of oil then a plug weld will not blow up. This has been used for donkey ages with chassis used in tube frame construction in the ag and mining industry to stop interior corrosion.

What I did when making me sliders was weld the lot up but before hand I'd drilled and tapped some top hats which were welded in place. Can then spray in through them, give them a good shake to coat and drain off the excess before putting a greased bolt in
