Hi Guys

Help needed, I purchased a RRS HSE 2.7 Sport (2007) 44000 around 9 months ago. I got the AA to inspect and all was fine and has been serviced and maintained by a LR dealership.

So far I have had to replace the oil sensor housing unit, rear wheel bearings, brake pipes and it now looks like the transfer box is on its way out as I have burnt oil and metal shaving, also told I may have to get a gearbox rebuild.

My question is, is it unusual to have these faults for such a young car, since purchase I have only done 5000 miles, the car has never been off road. Also would I be able to get financial assistance from LR themselves.

Kind regards

D.B.

IIRC the Transfer Box and the Gearbox uses different oil supplies, so I wouldn't think you'd need a GB rebuikld if the TB is showing issues.

The Gearboxes are a known failure item on the RRS and the L322, and although they say it is sealed for life - it really isn't and they could do with an oil change every year or so.

If you have metal in the GB and/or TB, change the oil and fiklters and see how they fair....caught early you could prevent big bills later on.

Yep looking at the work you have had done, sounds about right for a 5/6 year old car.....RR's are notorious for reliability issues, so don't buy one if you think it is a get in and go car...cos they ain't even when new!!

wonder how the previous owner drove it ?

most of the sports my way are always tearing about ? could have shagged the gearbox ?

Ditto, most Sport owners seem to mistake their vehicles for Pug 205s. It might have Sport in the name, but they really can't do launch starts without causing problems. They are, after all, near as makes no difference 3 tons of metal.

true !

although they do bloody shift when they want too.

just every now and then cant be too bad but ragging them round all day long is asking for trouble :D

It might be an expensive fix as the oils of the TB have been changed twice now and the noise is actually worse. I will try calling LR to see if they can help.

I blame the misses she wanted the RRS is the first place lol

Callback from LR today, no joy they said my RRS was too old. Quoted £2600 for transfer box supply and fit. Hope this fixes he prob....as I am now skint lol...

Sad to say but all Range Rovers are crap, one of the most unreliable vehicles on the road. A Lada Niva will give you less trouble.

Get the garage to guarantee that changing the box will fix the problem. Better still find an indy and get another price for the work:)

Got an indy quote from a lr specialist, he came back with £2500, so not much difference. Its going in next week anyways to see whats what as i think the anti rollbar are now gone also, at least that will be a cheaper fix.

Cheers guys

I will update the outcome.
