Hello to all, Just joined here. I got an old 1996 P38 2.5 dse RR.Auto
Got problem now, was driving along and lost all drive from auto box. its a ZF4HP22 gear box. checked it again this morning and drive was back but gone again when engine warm. Anyone got any ideas please??.

oil colour like new, nice pink colour and not burnt, got drive from cold but no drive forward or back when engine warm. looking at service history the oil was changed 9,000 miles ago

On the L322, no drive when warm indicates failure of an O ring or two I believe....

as the oil warms up and gets thinner, it finds its way through some minute sealing gaps reducing hydraulic pressure available to hold the drive clutchs and brakes in place loosing all drive!

But it's a P38 Ant:)

try seytting off in 1 when it wont go in d ,if no different youd need to check oil pressure ,and o rings on filter under valve block ,oil will look red on dipstick you would need to drain some out

yes oil level correct, think i'll remove sump and check filter not bunged up. cant understand why it just decided to lose drive, its the ZF 4HP22 box

its o-rings on filter to block and pick up pipe that may be an issue if filters bunged youve more serious thing to worry about ,how did you check level engine running box in neutral?

got a picture if I knew how to upload it
Scroll down the page to find the Manage Attachement Button....select that and upload

If you are quick replying...select Go Advanced, then scroll down to the Manage Attachement button!

Oil level checked with engine cold, idling and after moving through all the gears and back to park?
