Call for help...

Ok got the exhaust heat Shields off. But now at the point where I am going to need help lifting the heads..

The exhast manifold bolts are looking like they are going to be a pain and the down pipe are corroded up so looks like a nut splitter will be needed...

Any help from those in the area that have pulled heads on a thor before would be greatly appreciated..

If you have or can borrow an impact gun,you will probably get the nuts off. its much better than a spanner in these situations

Lol I did warn you about those best get some heat heat wrap and we can refit without the shields don't forget stainless tie wraps 20 or so should do it all on the bay some heat wrap come with them, see you Thursday buddy

Bike Teacher Dave paid a visit yesterday to pitch in with the head removal.

turns out number 7 had a slight between the coolant gallery and the cylinder..

pictures dave....

mystery solved? Go go lz rangers!!
its got to go back together and run properly before we start lighting the cuban cigars, standing back and viewing the handywork..

we had a manifold bolt shear off on number 7.. it proving a sod get out.. drilled out the bolt, stepping up to 7mm and the thread jacket is still not shifting, the stud extractor has a fair amount of tension on it, so dont want to shear that and end up with a hardened steel extractor stuck in there..

i might try the coke thing.. soaking it in coca cola... should it be the full fat, light or zero ?

simple blow lamp, patience and a bit a of oil...dont forget aluminium expands quicker than steel!!

Is there enough left to get mole grips on? Usually Plusgas is the stuff. A little heat might help.

of course there isnt enough to get grips on..

on the downpipe flange some of the studs were so annealed it took oxy acetelyne and a large pair of stillsons to get it to move

Sorry, I was away with the fairies then. Looked at the photo and went into flashbacks and lost some time!

well i tried heating and release oil and cycling the two, still wont budge and my ez out has lost its edge from the inside, the torque on the ez-out was visible and didnt want to shear that off. i'll take into an engineering place on monday have them drill it out.

The Guhring drill bit i have that is the right size is unfortunately worn though the smaller sizes went through the stuck bolt like butter and the HSS drill bits offered for retail are frankly cr@p and do about 1mm before blunting.
