How are you not filling up the axle with slop with all that pinion play??!

I am. :(

Rebuilt most of it except diff the other day and is now full of sludgy horrible oil again.

Checked the oil after spending 4 hours cleaning the disco with a jet wash and it still int very clean....

Right I see.

And with sludge in there the shear strength of the oil is heavily reduced so the crownwheel will wear badly

I've knackered a couple of diffs in my younger years not paying attention to pinion seals!!

Aye it's not good whatever is in there!

Will be stripped back down tomorrow for a thorough clean and change the diff and oils again.

I certainly wouldn't be this relaxed about it if I had ashcroft internals such as yourself!

Halfway to buying a rear diff built by Nige btw. ;)

I found slop in my back axle the other day after my first day out, was a drive flange gasket at fault.

Firstly I **** myself

And then set about stripping it all down, luckily the CWP was ok and the oil is now clean, and all is well!

Great news on the diff, you will not regret switch-on grip :)

Not good! And I think I would of shat myself too after spending the sort of dollar you have!

Glad all is OK though. :)

Haha yea I'm definitely looking forward to it. A few places I could of done with it this weekend just gone. :)

Gone and bought myself a winch...... :D

It's mostly a superwinch ep9 with a different motor on it.
Was fully rebuilt by the guy I bought it off and hasn't been used since so looking forward to getting it fitted to my homemade winch bumper and testing it out! :D

It will do until I can afford a Red winch anyway.

nice ! :) considering an ep9 for my rear winch :)

i love my competition hook, really easy to hook around tow bars too to rescue other folk :D

d links are good, just fiddley and like to lock up with mud :)

Yea that's true it's easier. I just like the look and the added safety factor of it.

How do you use that?

The big looking end goes through loop on the end of your rope and then attach a bow shackles through the other hole. More info here. Winch Safety Thimble | Factor 55 | Safer - Stronger - Smarter

So the winch is in. :)

Lifting the HD bumper and winch into position.....

Winch in and all bolted up and front end back together.

Just need to wire it all up now.

Did do a small test from the main battery to make sure all works as it should.
So will sort out moving the snorkel tube which goes where my second battery needs to go.
And when the tmax split charge system turns up I'll fit that too. :)

Now really can't wait to get out and use it. :D

Very good, big sense of achievement fitting a winch, you instantly become able to adventure further!

Agreed! Was a good feeling once it was fitted and tested, and it came to life. :D

Definitely may partake in the punch card challenge they do down my local site next time. :)

More photos of today at Muddy Bottom. :D

Some definitely stuck pics...... Was deeper than it looked! :D

Kinda surprised I didn't rip off me new arches! Held up well! :)

Then the bit that caused the mess underneath in the pic in my previous post.

Very steep drop in, huge ruts, very muddy, and a big climb out!

Had to fill the ruts in front of the front wheels to be recovered sideways. :p

And just chilling on a hill! :D

What a guy! Awesome thread. Great car.
