Hi all

I have just listed a group buy for the P38 Rf receiver if anyone is interested, please note I am not selling these, I have just tried to get the best price I could.

What is this RF receiver thing, I keep seeing it mentioned. Is this to do with the alarm, as my alarm does not operate from the key fob, no locking or unlocking, refurbed the key fob as such but still no joy.

RF receiver is what receives the signal from the FOB. Versions #1 & #2 were susceptible to stray signals, flattening the battery and burning the lock motors. Yours may be disconnected.

Sounds like yours has been disconnected, it is located in the right hand side of the boot under the hard plastic part where the rear seat catch is located, I removed the top trim and could see mine is the original version, I disconnected it and then the remote wouldn't operate the locks, plugged it back in and the remote worked again, I have decided to go to the upgraded Rf unit as I know how effected they are by all the different wireless things about nowadays. I suggest you check to see if yours is disconnected before looking at upgrading etc, I will have a spare old version soon that you can borrow to try it to check if it works, there is no programming to do, just plug it in and it either works or it doesn't.

Try syncing it to the car.

Very decent of you. I cannot believe how the prices have climbed. I felt ripped off at £160 2 years ago.

I think faced with it now I'd be using Brian's second fob to disable the RF unit fix.

Got to admit, that I put a manual switch in the signal wire from the RF to the BECM.
Now I only turn the RF on after unlocking with the key, so that I can press the fob and disarm the immobiliser.

Might change over to a remote relay controlled by a second fob.

just been reading this and think I may have a problem similar to the earlier post,

My fob does not lock or unlock the car and never has, the key works fine and all doors lock/unlock off it, the car starts and drives so after reading this I had a look at the rf unit.

It's what I think is the later type with the shielded board and the dark blue spot, the Aerial had been disconnected but the unit was still plugged in, I reconnected the aerial tried the fob and nothing, the fob flashes as it should I tried to re sinc but no good, is my rf unit shot and a replacement is needed or should I be looking elsewhere?

Ive the exact same problem, except my rf receiver has a green dot.
Send a message to mozz smith, hes guna try and sort me out.

hi lads , most problems of re-sync or loss of sync or non operation of fob is 99% caused by problems from r.f. receiver , all receivers with blue round sticker are original fitment and will eventually fail !!!!! new upgrades green round sticker work fine and have been upgraded 3 times ( see photos of each unit on " how to "section or my posts ) unfortunately THE MAIN STEALERS are charging disgusting prices approx. £260 for a part that's cost about £ 20 to make but there you go !!!!!! there is quite a lot of p38s in the scrapyards because of this ,,,!!!!! and there is quite a lot of p38s on the road which have had the receiver switched off by using diagnostics i.e autologic nanocom -faultmate -t4 etc etc basically they switch off the alarm setting and the immobiliser setting so you use the keyblade to lock and unlock , if anybody wants help and advice etc just p.m. me and I will get back to you with contact details ,,ok lads hope this helps kind regards MOZZ,

Green dot sadly means nothing, need to look inside to see which version receiver you have got.

keith is your eyesight failing aswell again ????????? you obviously didn't read the thread properly again or is it just the cheap red French plonk ??????????? :(:(:(:(:(

I have just fitted my updated Rf unit, Obviously I can't comment on battery drain issues, but I can confirm that I used to have be with 2 metres of the car for it to unlock/lock, but using the same key I can now be over 10 metres away, what a difference.

great result for you !!!!!!! that's one of the differences on the upgrades i.e. blue dot pre 99 ----- original 1st issue failed
green dot 99-2002 ---------2nd issue = re-design but had failures
green dot 02-08 ----------3rd issue = upgrade
green dot 08- 14 ----------4th issue =upgrade and final issue

from November 13 till april/may of 2014 huff in Germany had run out of stock and there was approx. 3/4 month wait for re run on production they are now quite widley available BUT at a fekin ****e price !!!!!! well done landrover .

regards mozz

I read what you said MOZZ, and I say again, green dot means very little as units are being sold on Ebay with old guts in boxes marked as new.
There are only 3 versions of the receiver of which I'm aware, the third version was never fitted during the production life of the car. It was, as you say, introduced as a final solution to the RF problems.

In my view this should have been a recall and fitted for free. Land rover knew about it for years and did not a lot.
