My 90 jumped outta reverse t'other day, and its been doing it ever since. It feels like it aint engaging fully, and it pops out.

It aint the reverse light switch blocking the mech, ive checked that.

Any ideas? As soon as you load reverse it jus pops out.

LT77 'box.

Weve Seen This Numerous Times , 99 Times Out Of Hundred This Is Why
Reverse Is Sitting In The Gate Not Behind It Thus The Gate Aint Shutting

Causes ; Daft I Know But Check The Rubber Matting/gators Is Stopping The Full Travel Of The Gear Shift (it Really Is Common ) Try Reverse With No Mats/gaitors In Place

Other Cause Is Your Gear Linkage Could Be Worn Or Loosened Its Worth A Look Before Droppin Ya Gear Box

Please explain further!
I have checked the mats aren't blocking it...
The reverse light switch is clear also
What do you mean sitting in the gate?

Which bit of the linkage to i need to check for wear? I have had the lower stick/ball bit out and checked it over, nothing wrong there. I then engaged reverse manually using the remote linkage (Shaft from further back with large collar on the end of it) and again it just jumped out.

See if you lift the tranny tunnel off, and you look either side of the box, there are round things that stick out a bit - take the one of on the left and see if its clogged/dirty.

have ya got a manual for it ? its quite difficult to explain gates but here goes in the wat i hope is a way ya can understand

the gates are the slots were the gear shift for reverse has to be pushed through, its the resistance you feel when aimin for reverse , bit like shovin a bar between to spring loaded bearings .its also wat stops ya accidently hittin reverse whilst driving forward . i personally if that way inclined strip the tunnel out so ya can really have a good look at exactly wats happening .realisticly the build up of **** is not likely to be the prob or it would have been more of a progressive prob rather than something thats just appeared and stayed .

lt77 boxes is more of my dads thing so i in all honestly cant say which linkage its likely to be ,(id ask him but hes on a jollie in hong kong for 2 weeks )how ever r380 box its usually the last linkage that wears on the plastic collars

if its poppin out with a bang its def not travelling all the way so ya can narrow it down to gear travel and pretty much rule out an internal gear failure
with out seeing it its hard to diagnose but if it was i id have the tunnel out and try holdin it in reverse using hand to feel just wats happenin , best of luck see how ya go and if poss up date ya progress the more info i get the better the advice will be

ive had the tunnel off. The linkage that you can get to easily (underneath the stick/ball) is moving as far as it always has.

It Engages fine, and when loaded it pops out. When cold its just a sort of 'clunk' as it comes out, when warm its more violent.

If held, you can feel it trying to jump out when you load it, it kinda moves a few mill against your hand - too much force to hold it all the way in.

Its also getting harder to hold in to reverse.

The reverse gate is all ok, i've checked that bit.

Did some reading up on how gearboxes work the other day, so now feel as though i have more of an idea. Found a manual for the LT77 but its a really ****e photocopy.

Would quite like a short bellhousing R380 though... :)

this turned out to be a ****ed box, ive fitted a new one. Am going to rebuild the old one soon when i have time, and i wil post pictures of what i find then.
