I had a problem with my "beloved" P38 4.6 V8 Auto, where it would drive ok, but occasionally it appeared to "struggle" to pull off in 1st no matter how much beans you gave it, and a little bit in 2nd also, other times it was just fine, eventually we lost reverse in a car park and had to call the nice man from the AA who said it was the gearbox,
so I swapped the gearbox and transfer box with a second hand unit of approx 90k and its been fine for a quite a while.

but the wife rang me today, the truck is parked at the top of the drive and when she selected reverse nothing!! it revs, but no reverse again!!

This cant be happening, can it??

Am I just pure unlucky or is there possibly something else I am missing or am I going to be replacing another gearbox? :doh:

did you check colour of oil that had been in it before fitting,both boxes could be fixed if that only fault

When I put the gearbox in I fitted a new filter and filled with new oil.

you should check colour of oil that is in any box your going to fit

Does the colour of the oil indicate if the gearbox is stuffed or not?

may need a bit of oil in it

anything blackish leave alone ,autos dont get dirty oil unless clutch pack burning out ,as your latest box has and previous before
