I’m after some advise,
My 90 has a 2” lift kit and I want to return it to standard height.
Problem is it has been fitted with castor correction swivels at the front and cranked arms at the back.
Can I just swap the springs to standard or do I need to swap everything?

if castor correction was 3 degrees youd have 6 and not the std 3 when you dropped it,though 2inch lift shouldnt really have needed castor correction,try it and if it steers odd fit std swivels
 
Can't help you, but just wondering, why do you want to go standard?
Good question, one reason is I’ve got short legs, I prefer the lower look.
I never go off road.
To be quite honest I would like to lower it, what am I crazy?
The previous owner told me he had corrected the castor angle.

No, I don't think you're crazy:) It's just that 3 out of 4 people on forums want to have a lift and a ready to cash out a couple of K's to get it done. There is a guy from uproar4x4, who lowered his 90 by 1 inch and runs 285/75R16 if I'm not mistaken. It looks surprisingly good and he says he's been fine running such tires on that suspension :)

Interesting.
As you say lift kits aren’t cheap, lowering is also expensive.
Do you think it would be ok just to swap out the springs for standard without effecting the way it drives?

As Jamesmartin said. Try it and see. No real way to tell.
 
You can lose an inch just by fitting smaller tires.When 90's first came out they were on 205's

My 90 is currently fitted with 235 85 r16 which I like the look of. But with the lift they don’t fill the arches.
I have just got some wheel adapters so I can fit the newer landrover wheels.

I know I am not the best person for this as in my opinion wheels should only ever be made of steel, but I would stick with 16" even if you go for more modern alloys. If you want a larger overall feel to fill the arches fit bigger profile rubber. On a defender even the shiny "city" ones (which I also disagree with :rolleyes:) large low profile tyres just look foolish.

Agreed big silver wheels with low profile tyres on a defender is a no no.
I want either black 20s with a larger profile or maybe some 18” p38 twin bars with a 60 or 70 profile
I would like to stay around the 31” rolling radius
Early days yet I need to drop the 90.

Why?

Probably one of the most modded vehicles on the UK roads, that's the appeal for the majority that aren't stuck-in-the-mud rivet counters.

Not my preference, but do what you want with it, your vehicle, your dollar! :)

Will look utterly ridiculous and not in a good way. Claiming to like how it looks would just be fooling yourself, not others.

Buying a Defender to not use it off road is arguably a flawed decision. It’s like buying a track car and never going on a track. If you use the utility and towing ability then fine. But a Discovery or Range Rover is likely a far superior vehicle for road only use.

Yeah. In your opinion. He didn't ask for that, he was asking advice.

And if he does like the look of that its up to him, its his vehicle and his choice. Some people are mad keen on defenders because of their shape/construction. I've seen a 90 lowered to within an inch of its life, small block Chevy, auto box and its cost a good few grand and a couple of years hard graft...the blokes happy, so its a good result. The fact you don't like it is neither here nor there, and that's the point.

Seriously, mate? The Defender's continued production was only possible, latterly in particular, because most buyers actually just wanted to drive it along the road and not head over the hedge for a bit of fun.

I agree. Over the last ten years of production the Defender became more and more road oriented, with things like comfort, road speed, and fuel economy taking precedence over the traditional landrover values of ruggedness and simplicity.
Some off road ability was retained for the utility market, most buyers used them as cars.

Pics when you do it! Not my cup of tea, neither is big lift and massive tyres but I can appreciate different mods people do to their taste.

Your truck, do what you want and use it for what you want
 
I put mine back on 205's mainly because of the cost of replacement 235 that came off, oh and its a 200tdi so it could not pull the skin off a banana on the larger ones. But I agree if you want to make your defender look like and on road mall crawler, buy a jeep.
