Alternative to PicoScope is the Hantek 1008C for a fraction of the price. The cost varies a bit depending on how many probes to require. The software wants Windoze, but also works ok using a VM on Macbook. It will show the CAN databus is working but doesn't decode the data.

I used mine to diagnose a misfire using Cam & Crank sensors, plus spark probe to check each HT lead in turn . . . .really easy.
The description says the Hantek works as a storage scope, is that correct? I have a 4 channel 100Mhz scope but no ability to store traces for analysis so the Hantek could be of interest.

There's a button to take a screenshot but not sure about video, I can fire it up and check if it's video you need?

Screen shot is probably sufficient to analyse the FOB output for example.

Simples :D

What is the time scale on that trace please?
:oops:Just noticed top right it says 10ms which is a bit slow.

If I remember correctly you can save a running trace, or one-shot, but in either case it saves the trace buffer. The file seems to be just a text file with all the data points, so could easily be charted in Excel. Strangely to load data, it wants a CSV file, so the save & load are incompatible. !!

Keith,
Ask for one for Xmas ?

Example file attached.

I'm afraid that string of numbers do not mean a lot to me.
Too expensive for a Christmas present. I need to look at what is available, I looked some time ago and found nothing that did what I wanted at a price I was prepared to pay.

What functions do you need Keith ? There are quite a few pre-configured engine modes, that can be adapted for whatever ans saved as custom config files.

Here's an example with the scope in demo mode. Top two traces are reference to what most cars should look like (these can be switched off). Bottom two traces are the unit showing sine waves because the hardware is disconnected. This is what I used for Spark Lead causing misfire.

Not for engines, it's for looking and storing FOB traces. Most things I can do with my existing scope.
