Maybe it is... as I’ve said I’m new to diesels and I’m still learning!

Edit: just tried cranking it over myself and when I do the glow lamp shows up very faint on the dash.... anyone else noticed this?

Crack the connector from the clear pipe to the FIP and crank it and close it when fuel comes out. You might have introduced an airlock when you disconnected the pipes.

Pretty sure my cut off solonoid isn’t supposed to come apart like this...

It can’t possibly work. The valve is not attached to the body therefore it cannot possibly retract or extend. It’s very dead. Pretty certain this is what caused the stoppage.

it does look like that, just slides up and down the inner tube, but there should be an o ring on the bottom of the collar, probably still inside the top of your pump, get something hooked and fish it out

The O-ring is still on it unless there are two?

So at least successfully diagnosed one issue. Now to find out why the glow plugs aren’t working. Or is this potentially causing the glow plug shut down?

It would make sense, if the fuel remains cut off then the glow plugs have nothing to heat and therefore may not be activated?

no total unrelated, it doesnt work that way, and yes there are two orings one i can see the othere should be under the lower collar, thats the one that shut your fuel off when the plunger goes down

Righto. I’ve just cleaned up for dinner so will investigate that after work tomorrow.

Have to say thank you to everyone on here, great forum, very helpful. Virtual beers for everyone when I’m up and running again!

Having to get about in this piece of automotive excellence at the moment so really need my P38 back on the road ASAP!

sorry just been looking at pics of solenoid and there does appear to be only one o ring fitted , not quite sure how that would work, but will find out tomorrow as ive got a pump lying on the floor in my workshop lol

.....Landy Zone is probably the best forum on the net for Land Rovers.....and the knowledge is second to none. We may take the rise, insult people and generally muck about, but the knowledge, help and skill level is beyond words.

We always encourage Range Rover owners to have a spare car on hand....I use a 1995 318i SE Auto at the moment that cost me £300 last Summer and passed its MOT this year with only the handbrake needing a tweek....

Yea I’ve got quite a few cars but irony is they are either broken, in storage, mileage sensitive or track cars. The pug, as much as I hate it, cost £50 and is embarrassingly fun to drive. It does the job.

@P38_OTMS : have you got a copy of RAVE handy yet? You'll need it.

Glows should be solid light so think you are right in that something is amiss there. You could always take the hotfix off and see if it makes any difference.
