Surprised you have found one that is not a pile of rust. They were pretty good a falling apart when fairly new as i recall. TR5 Pi would be my choice. Class motor they were.

Not looked at it too closely yet. I have acquired a late Thor gearbox. I know it is a bit longer. Not sure whether to machine a spacer or alternatively alter the prop shafts. I need to find a diesel bellhousing first.

You will need the 24 transfer box I think as the output shaft on the 22 is different to the 24. LR use a different length spacer between the auto box and the transfer box to accommodate the different auto box lengths so no need for mods. The diesel bell housing should bolt straight on and I think it's possible to use the next size up torque convertor which will give better response with less slip, LR use 3 different sizes, small on the diesel, a medium and a large:)

Yeah know they are big money not a lot were made. The early 2.5 PI engines had a problem with crank thrust bearing spinning. Factory repair was to drill block web and fit a self tapper to anchor it. It was a not to be communicated to customer mod. Brand new TR6 came in on warranty with "Something rolling around in boot on corners". After a couple of hours of buggering about retrieved a Phillips screw driver from fuel tank. His little lad had dropped it in there. He was not impressed when he had to pay the labour.
