Following on from my other thread I could do with some help with the alternator please.

I am trying to find a replacement. The unit fitted at the moment is a Lucas LRA100 with part number 23842. I have checked the Haynes which says that the original Lucas 11AC would have been 45 amps. I can't find an LRA100 which is 34 amps.

I'm not too familiar with the demands on an alternator but can't work out for the life of me why there is a difference between a 2.25 on a series 2 and the same engine in a series 2a. Mine is a 2.

So - can I fit a 34 amp or do I have to try and find a 45 amps? Will this screw the voltage regulator if I fit a 45 and the current part is a 34?

If you can't find the same alternator ..i think best option is buying a different alternator and buying the right voltageregulator. I don't know if that's rather expensive
Tell me if im wrong?!

The 36 amp alternator should work fine - unless you've added electrical bits like driving lights in which case a bigger alternator would be advised. The voltage regulator is integral to the alternator and will be fine. If you still have the old separate regulator box it's probably being used as a junction box 'cos your landy would have been converted from dynamo to alternator. There's several threads about this conversion on here.

There are no additional bits on this believe me. Thanks for the advice.

Tried to find earlier threads but find search function awful.

Are you looking for a replacement dynamo or a replacement alternator?

There's a big difference between them!

If you have an alternator, you would not need the voltage regulator (AVC) box, as the charge would go directly to the battery.

Is all alternator. Turns out it is not seized but the adjustor for the belt was interfering with the metal fan hence it wouldn't turn.

No new alternator required. However I have now put it back right and the battery light will not come on. Not even before ignition.

Any ideas?!

Thought I had checked the wires carefully. Will redo tomorrow.

Bulb may be the answer. Is this common when changing alternator?
