Just a quick update on my situation. Partly for the sake of an update, partly as I noticed my post count is 666 :eek: and so I thought it best not to leave it there too long.

My voltage measured at the battery terminals @ 2000 rpm is 13.8V and slowly rises to 13.9V.but does not go above.
I have not fitted the VR/Diode pack yet as its been pi55ing down for near a week.

I wondering when I fitted my current battery and so I was searching through my old posts and found this: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/battery.248871/page-2
That produced 2 interesting points:
  • The voltage is no different then than it is now (I did not change the VR/Diode pack back then- probably as the issue went away).
  • The Alphaline battery I fitted over 6.5 years ago, which to me seems to have lasted a very long time. What kind of life do you guys get out of your batteries?
Seeing as the battery is "getting on" in my view I am expecting to need to replace it in the next few weeks/months. Especially as the winter is normally tough on batteries.
It's probably best to wait and see how things behave after changing the VR/Diode pack then prep to order new, however again what kind of life do you guys get out of your batteries?

News, it's fitted. The VR, no new diode pack installed. Just cleaned up slip rings and in general.
Instantly 14.2V rising to 14.5v and just at idle, not at 2K and not tested on load with headlights. I was already impressed enough at the increase in volts.
PLUS, my "alternator fault" message has gone.
