I wouldn't say ineffective but in older people (especially men over 60 years) it is below 50% effective. Estimates from Iran and Brazil where they've had somewhat of a sh!tstorm seem to imply immunity from natural infection lasts about 16months and that's usually better than the vaccines. The mRNA ones seem to fade faster but then they typically had less side effects in the first place so maybe that was expected.
One report on mRNA vaccines put immunity down to 40% after 2 months, 20% after 4 months and as good as zero after 6 months for the Delta variant. The number of reported side effects are growing Myocarditis, Pericarditis, Menstrual problems for women and this is likely to be the tip of the iceberg, mustn't let any contra indications gain traction against the propaganda in favour of vaccination. Flu vaccines are variant specific, no reason to believe Covid 19 is any different. Hospitalisations are ramping up as are deaths.

Delta variant has been going strong here all summer and we're not seeing that in the data. More are being hospitalised but still not a lot and still not dying.

You're right, of course, sooner or later there will be an 'escape variant' that rrquires a new vaccine, that's also inevitable. Those same side effects happen with a natural infection but approximately 10 times worse. If you think how the virus works with the ACE pathway it makes sense that it would.

Flu jabs aren't very effective at the best of times but like anything else it is just a case of lowering your risk a little and hoping. Vitamin D supplement probably as good.

Still, each to their own, like wearing a seat-belt really: it doesn't guarantee you won't be killed or hurt but usually it helps minimise damage.
