Hello there ,

I was just wondering if is a good ideea remaping TD5 defender to add abit more power / torque ,also do i have to update ECU beforehand ?

What can be the downside of having remapping done?

Can anybody recomed a good garage in Wiltshire (100miles) radius .

As far as I'm concerned its a good idea, so many people seem to do it, have a look at 'TD5 Alive'. I enquired at a generic car tuners and they promised me a gain of 45hp and 55lbft. i'd imagine a td5 specialist would be better though as they know the engine better.
I've heard things such as improved MPG (assuming you drive it how you would before the tune!).

Cheers Callum.
I did heard the same thing ,lets see if anybody here has done and can share their expericence whith remapping

Mike at Dynachip does a very good job.

Loys on here have used his service on D2 TD5s.

Give him a shout he does mobile programming.

Are you willing to invest in doing it correct or on the cheap/
1st you will need a larger innercooler, and then a better exhaust system. and then a possible exhaust manifold and studs for the TD5

Ive had two Td5 Fenders mapped. There is no downside.

My old 90 was done by Dynachip - a mobile service, ~£250 - was on a standars 90, no big intercooler, standard turbo, just blanked EGR. Went well, the added power was very welcome and modest, eventually added a larger IC. No downside what so ever, best £250 I spent on the 90.

My 110 I went a little further, well alot futher. Hybrid turbo, allisport intercooler, egr blank, uprated MAP and a TD5inside remap. It shifts.

The extra power is excellent and wouldnt own a stanard TD5 again. Only downside on this one is, its a tad smokey... but that is mainly because im at the limit of the current set up, actually looking to have the AFR adjusted to smoke less. I was distressing convertables in the summer haha

Overall it really depends in what you want. If you want a nice simple map that'll do then pick Dynachip, cant be faulted (just search this forum alone).

Wanna go for the most power (bigger turbk etc..) you can get, pick TD5inside (~£250), BAS, Alive (~£350+)

Hi, just wondered how you got on with your smokey TD5. Ive got a remapped disco that wont pass new emissions standard. I spoke to an engine specialist about it and he said straight away it was to do with remap. It goes like a train but wont pass an mot as it is. Im trying to find the best solution. Any insight you had on this subject would be appreciated. My initial thought is to have the remap reversed. I bought the car already remapped so dont really know exactly what was done (stage1)

Switchable map, standard tune for mot, then switch back to power map

Is that likely to be costly?about 300 per time?(it may be a one way trip as thinking about selling) Can i adjust the air /fuel ratio even as a short term fix to pass mot? I know i could blank off egr but that might present a warning light and be a fail. Just need to get mot and then decide what to do with it. Its the only problem i have with it at minute
