Apologies if this has been covered before did search for it but couldnt see it probablt because I am an old git anyway is it possible to refit the engine with the manifold and heatshield attached on the driver side ie where the steering column is any help etc ta

Possibly but you're making life difficult for your self. By the time youve fannied around trying to jiggle it at the correct angle scratching and bending everything you may as well have removed it in the first place. I put my v8 in a defender and did it by the book. Gives you the opportunity and satisfaction of knowing you disassembled everything, figured out how it works and why that particualr bolt is there, cleaning and reassembling to a good standard.

Lro mag have done a good write up in the last few issues of a v8 rebuild.

I am having a liner replaced and the heads skimmed so therefore have the engine completely stripped down and was going to rebuild on a bench and wondered if it could go in with the manifold in place as I dont really want to strip out the steering column but am worried about getting the manifold colts torqued correctly

can be fitted with manifold and heatsheild in place(thats how i did mine).i refitted the engine with the rubber engine mounts removed so i could get to the bell housing bolts easier, then when all done up i lifted the engine and refitted the rubber mounts.drivers side a bit tricky but do-able. i bent a 15mm spanner at 90 degrees so i could do up the mount from underneath.
