Mate was wondering what the road tax would be on his 1962 'Q' plate with Harvey Frost crane
Any clues please ?

would it not be on the pre 2001 rates if its <3500Kg be same as a Landy £362.25. could always put trade plates back on it?

think HGV rates 4000-12000 is A0 £165 per yer + taco

He doesn't have trade plates, bought it as a project, new chassis etc
Can tax it as a Landy but was wondering if it's possible to tax it as a recovery vehicle and if that would be any cheaper

whats the wieght of it?

if its over 3500 you need C or above on your licence and a taco - lot of these types of vehicals once you put a car on the back go over 3500kg and if stopped cause issues with the po po. basically lots of these if you have a car licence your better towing a car behind on a tralier than just putting on back as you can drive 3500 and pull 3500 on a standard car licence now. so if its a standard weight one its about 2-2.5 you can fit a very small car and thats about it.

think you can get trade plates

think you can get trade plates class yourself as a sole trader - little side gig. long as your not using 24/7.
It's only for shows (show vehicle) not for towing cars in

I have a 1972 beetle and that is completely tax exempt. Just not sure about the vehicle weight and commercial side effecting it 😔

New chassis kills the tax exemption as a significant change.
Trade plates at your risk as the fine is high for misuse. Trade plates cost as well and could be as much as the tax. Given the original year would be a fixed price.

Pretty sure you are wrong in your thinking.

As long as "like for like" its just changing a spare part of mecano for a landy
