Pretty sure you are wrong in your thinking.

As long as "like for like" its just changing a spare part of mecano for a landy

Looking at the gov website lists chassis and engine as major change, it then says that affect the way it drives. So not sure now if as you say like for like is ok.

New chassis kills the tax exemption as a significant change.
Trade plates at your risk as the fine is high for misuse. Trade plates cost as well and could be as much as the tax. Given the original year would be a fixed price.
It's on a Q plate and can't be changed so not tax exempt
That's why he's asking how can he get cheaper tax, maybe recovery vehicles are cheaper ??

if its the same spec chassis and not modified you are OK.

Is it a recovery vehicle or used as a classic vehicle.
I imagine he is going to have to suck it up and pay it by the sounds if it.

So you don't actually know if it can be taxed as a recovery vehicle ?
To be honest I don't know if makes any difference. Maybe you might be better off finding a forum which deals with classic commercial vehicles, if its classed as a commercial.
Has it never been taxed before then?

Don't think you understood the original question 🤔
