Hi all i am considering buying a recon IRD are AW Transmissions any good down in the MidLands???? Have spoken to Andy there seems pretty genuine.........has anybody had one of there units..... ????

Hi Im new here but thought I'd chuck in my bit. I just replaced my wifes vcu with one from freelandersparesuk.com they were realy helpful even told me of a place in Preston who can recon my ird would recommend them highly.

Just a update Freelander spares sent me another one on thursday and it has been fitted today and tested and all is well for a change so I am ready for another bout of snow

Neglible fuel saving and poor handling is all you'll get.

Repair the IRD then save up for the Vcu while you props off

Depends on the damage. Someone could seem weld it I guess. Recon ird suppliers give you money for your old ird but not when it's cracked. So it may be they can't repair the case easily. Can we have a pic to see the hole?

Someone on here mentioned a company that sell recon ird without a surcharge for exchanging units!
They were a good price too iirc

btw what are peoples thoughts on 2nd hand IRD's on ebay??? works out cheaper than a recon unit but bit worried about how long it would last.

2 reasons for selling. 1 it's broke'd. 2 it's off a Freelander they're scrapping. Either way you can't be sure it's a good one. If you know and see the reason why the Freelander is scrap then you may be lucky.

I will just stick with a recon then, that was my thoughts on the ebay ones, was worried would end up with a duff ird.

Hi everyone, first post for this forum and I'm pretty new to forums in general.

I have been looking for a recon IRD for my '01 FL TD4 for a few weeks and glad to have come across this thread before I take the plunge. I have found a guy on ebay called genlemen_of_salvage based in Devon who is offering 'reconditioned' IRDs for £495 and then £50 back for the old one. I have emailed them a couple of times and they actually pay for the return postage as well.

Has anyone had any dealings with these guys? Or is it worth shelling out the £615 and getting one from Bell? I have already got a recon VCU before anybody asks.

all help is greatly appreciated. I have read this forum countless times for advise and info. Thanks in advance
