Newbie mechanic with very little equipment here. Just got a Def 90 and was trying to change the rubber at the end of the link arm. I've failed at the first hurdle cos I need a 25mm spanner, a 25mm socket and a 30mm socket.

The standard socket and spanner sets I've seen don't really go this big.

Can anyone recommend a good 'larger' than norm set from somewhere or should I just buy everything individually?

(I've already bought a 27mm for the wheels!!!)

Cheers

For a general set you can't go far wrong with a Halfords Professional set... they're about £150 for a comprehensive one, but they often have deals offering them at £99. The best thing about them is that if you break anything, ever, since it's a Professional set, you can just take it back to any halfords and get it replaced on the spot for free :)

As for the bigger ones, buy them individually as you need them, no point in buying a full set as some you will never use.

Thanks guys

Unfortunately I'm in the position of already bought a (too small) spanner and socket set!! Guess I'll just get individuals as and when needed.

The Halfords set looks like an excellent find though! Wish I'd seen it sooner.

Halfords gets my vote too.. iv yet to be stuck for a spanner/socketwhile using on landy

I did manage to break a torx t55 head while proper hangin out of it and they replaced no problem i jus showed them the piece and they told me to take a new one off the shelf :)

Still robbin bastids for most things tho!

i use mostly snap on stuff but then again i am a pro mechanic, you could try teng or facom as they are mid range tools.

I bought this as my local ag supplier had a sealey sale on Sealey Socket Set 33pc 1/2"Sq Drive Metric/Imperial : Tooled-Up.com and am more than impressed with the quality. I would stick to sealey, teng or kamasa, never had a bad experience with any of them and they generally have lifetime garuntees too. i took a proffessional range breaker bar back to halfords as it broke and they got really arsey about it, i ended up getting a replacement but only after being a real nuisance :D.

Hmmm I did not know that - should check mine - I think it was a Pro set and the screwdriver tips were sh*t they snapped off, as such I have almost no phillips headed ones.

halfords professional seem to be good kit and the lifetime guarantee is great (as long as you keep the receipt ;) )

got a little teng tools socket set free with a bike mag subscription a few years ago and its been great, done two engine swaps, piston & barrel change and a few hours under the landy and still going strong :)
