This may be a little crazy, but here goes.

I have acquired a 110 county TD5 Cat C that was written off due to an interior fire. There's not that much damage, drivers seat, roof lining, driver's door and b-pillar plastic and a very messy damaged dash where the perpetrators clearly tried to start it, got fed up, ripped out the centre console containing the radio and fled. It still starts and drives and is in excellent condition otherwise.

So I need to scrap the chassis to comply with the cat C along with the interior due to smoke damage/toxic chemical contamination.

I understand that anything I do with it will now probably (definitely?) result in a Q plate, which doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I would love to buy a new 90 galv-chassis and reuse most of the 110 to create a soft top 90 (SVX style). Mechanically and body-work wise the 110 is in excellent condition so what bits would I need in addition to what can be re-used from the 110?

We'll start with the rear tub, fuel tank and rear prop-shaft. So apart from the obvious soft-top components, can anyone point me to a list of other stuff I'll need?

Also, is there a recommended guide for a chassis swap? I have a barn in which to carry out the conversion and am reasonably competent (I already have a 110 TD5 County daily driver that i do all the work on).

what makes you say this get a new galv 110 chassis and jobs a good'n if you've got the V5

V5 has been returned to Insurance Co by ownder and they want a COD. I am getting lots of conflicting info from various sources about the Q plate thing.
 
If you do actually need to get rid of existing chassis, and you want a 90 on a Q go for it! But when I was enquiring about insuring a Q plate alot of normal insurers didn't want to know, and when I did find someone the yearly premium was quite high, best check things like that out first! Good luck with whichever way you go about the build! :)

according to this you should be able to fill a V62 form in and get the V5
I would agree with this, I had a jag that was a cat c write off that I put back on the road. All I needed to do was take it for a new mot to prove road worthiness.

I would definitely do some more research around this, If it is a cat c you don't need to do as much work and you would possible be better getting back on the road and selling it to buy a 90 base vehicle for the project. If it is not a cat c then there are far more regulations regarding the disposal and reuse of parts.
 
Thanks. Yes it did seem odd that they are insisting on a COD for a CAT C. I will try and check what it has actually been registered as.
The truck passed it's MOT a week before the vandals got hold of it, so it would just need a new interior and maybe a deep clean. There doesn't seem to be much info surrounding cars which have had a minor fire in them that have been written off.
The chassis is in good condition (as is the truck all round actually) which is why I had to buy the salvage, it would be a major pity to crush the whole vehicle for the sake of some interior trim.
My initial enquiries seemed clear that I could only get a Q plate - which is why I thought I'd build my dream defender rather than re-build what's there.
I am now once again, confused. Especially since the rules have changed twice in two years!
 
I think I have spotted the problem here....it was CAT B written off not C - I have got myself confused with the letters. Hence why I was pretty sure it had to have a new chassis and Q plate.. Sorry, back to original question about parts needed.
