my last car was a citroen c1 and i paid £120 for a service and that included changing brake discs and pads, parts included! was surprised at that one!

I went a local guy who does mechanics but fabricates stuff too, does all the farmers repairs in the area, that sort of chap, some top notch welders there and knowledgable guys, ive been quoted £160+vat for a full day of welding on my disco, which will fill all the holes in and the worst areas. made up with that!

rob,can you pm this chaps details so i can keep him in mind in case i ever need him.:D;)

Yeah sure. The two different parts of my posts were two different places. The first garage is still good but as I've got my green oval I use this other place plus they are closer!

This is the first place. Old school set of guys still don't believe in computers. Do a good job. Good if you want to find things that need sorting for an MOT!

Update; was told that 4 callipers were shot and needed replacing. Is this likely to be a significant increase in labour time/charges?

If they're doing Discs. then the old callipers will have been romoved anyway. so refitting new ones won't add to the time or the bill just fitting new pads 2minute job. and the bleeding of them that will add to the existing time, quoted.

oops sorry i did not read the full story, just jumped in wiv me size 11's.

Hopefully picking it up today so I'll put you lot out of your misery and post the price.
Original quote £100 to replace discs & pads; had to replace callipers at same time so, name final price.

Winner gets half my Mars Bar:p

If you supplied the calliper a and extra 20 for time to bleed the system if not add 250 ish ? Not sure what the price of calories are off the top of my head

I supplied all the parts. Curious as to how much extra it will be with having to fit new callipers (cost £150). Is it much more time wise fitting the callipers?

oh id included parts ,,not much work at all as you have to remove calipers to change discs , caliper bolts been one of those jobs that can take minuets or hours ,as can brake pipes and bleeding

Could get into a migrating job, not really cut and dried.
should fit new rotors and pads also
Bolts could brake and need to be removed..... more money
Brake lines could brake when undoing from callipers..... more money
I'm not making any money off of parts so work slower........ more money

Down fall to you is if any parts fail, blames on you , not the mechanic as he just supplied labor.

You should know as well as anyone that bleeding brakes can take a few minutes, it can also take ages when you find the rear nipples siezed, master cylinder on its last legs and the brake lines rotten and fall apart in your hands....

...but if all goes well then no extra time at all really...

Ha just re-read your original post, my bad, missed the 'minutes or hours', just read 'minutes', I hate mondays!!

Yeah £100 is cheap, as a garage job I would expect £150+ VAT on a full price job, cheaper maybe for a regular customer, £100 inclusive is nearer mates rates...
