Hey there, This is my first post here and what a great bunch you all seem to be :) I have been reading for the past few months while deciding what to get and finally got the short wheel base disco auto tdi. I have found a couple of usual faults like rust but I have found today when my mates went to jump in the back that it only has 2 seat belt buckles fitted to the double seat for the drivers side rear seat and for the middle lap belt but ones missing for the passenger side rear seat, the belts there just no buckle and I cant see anyway to fit one. Could someone please help me as I am new to this and so stuck at the moment, ASny pics would be a great help.

Thanks everyone :)

What disco?
For a D1 The buckle plus a short strap with a captive hook on the end is missing it will be identical to the one fitted on the opposite side, part no. BTR478LNF

And Welcome to the Forum

by buckle do you mean the bit thats on the belt? or the bit that the belt clips into, mounted on the floor? if its the bit on the belt then if you undo the bottom of the belt you should be able to slide the buckle clip thing on. if its the bit that the belt clips into then check under the seat (dont wanna patronise you but it might be tucked under?). failing that then there will be a hole that will take a large bolt (17mm ish iirc) somewhere on the floor under the seat, just rearwards of the back of the seat.

all parts needed will be freely available in a scrapyard, and all belts are the same for 3 or 5 door models

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. I mean the part that the seatbelt clips into. I had a look under the seat where the other one is and I see what you mean about the bolt and hook but I dont see a hole where a bolt would of been holding it like the other side, maybe there werent one there in the first place so I may have to drill one, would that be safe? Cheers

no you cant just drill a hole - you need to weld a plate on the back of the panel as a load spreader. the plate also needs to be of a certain thickness.

is the side where the buckle is missing the side that the lap belt comes out of? if so then im sure that mine has the lap belt and the buckle together on the same mount and using the same hole. but im 100% sure that there will be a hole there to take a bolt.

Ohhh i didnt know that because the 2 buckles thats fitted to the seat on the drivers side have the bolt fitted to the bottom of the chair and not the chasis but on the single seat behind the passenger theres is no holes at all on the bottom of the chair or chassis so i am abit stumped really :S

The belt doesn't go thru an hole it clips to a braket bolted to the floor look for the bracket If that's not there lift the carpet and expect to find a gaping hole where the floor should be. Peeps usally remove the belts when the floor is too rotten to be safe. Not sure why as the seatbelt mounting is actuaaly attached to the chassis and passes thru the floor

thansk for the help guys its much appreciated. I will check that out tomorrow. I just dont understand why the buckle on the other side is bolted to the bottom of the seat if it should be bolted to the floor, mmmmm may feel the need for a haynes manual shortly lol

It shouldn't be. bolted to the seat at all there should be 3 D brackets bolted thru the floor to the chassis. Via a long pivoting arm. any other way should be an MOT failure and potentially life threatening.

gotta say ive never known a rear seat belt mounting point to be a part of the seat fixing. something to do with rear seat bases not being fixed to the rear floor using permanent fixings.

so what i understand is that all the seat belt buckle fixings should be bolted to the chassis and not the seat, I will have to have a look into this over the next couple of days and get back to you with any info I found out. Just a quick questions, whats the average price for a 200tdi 3 door rear floor panel including welding? Cheers

seatbelt mountings shud be as below.

cheers for the pics, i get it now, so the seat belt buckles I have at the moment are way to short for that so I need to get some new ones and probably and new rear floor panel. Any idea how much the welding for the rear floor panel will cost? Cheers

New floor is about £45 how much to weld it depends on who does it for yu.

thats cheaper than i thought was expecting around £100 for the floor, pretty chuffed with that then. I will take it in next week to our local 4x4 repair specialist to get the seat belt buckles fitted properly as I have children in the back so it is dangerous now i reliease that its fixed wrong. Thanks for the great help, nice to meet you all :)
