I have a TD5 D90 and have noticed a rear 'popping" noise coming from the rear. It sounds much like when you put your finger in your mouth and make the "pop" noise. Only happens when i start to drive in 1st gear, does not happen when i decelerate or change into other gears. I have all new bushings including the rear a frame ball joint replaced.

Any ideas?

A loose brake pad can move in the caliper. As this is related to the fit of the backing plate in the caliper it could happen with new brakes. It's not something that has happened to me personally as I'm still on drums, but I've heard of it.

Checked handbrake adjustment? Never heard of it popping but the fact it's only on take up of drive and it's easy to check....

Have you checked halfshafts and flanges as @Maroondestroyer asked?
