Hi... I'm looking for some help with my 90!

Rear left indicator isn't working and fixing it is driving me mad.
How can something so apparently simple, take soooo much time?

I've worked on the assumption that:

The fact that the front left and mid are working fine:
a) it's not the fuse
b) It's not the Relay
c) It's not the Indicator switch
d) It's not the Hazard Switch

I've swapped left with right rear indicator bulb with housing... fault stays with rear left. I've repaired some obvious cable 'damage' where previous join's have been made (near left indicator) and swapped the indicator housing, because I didn't like the looks of it.

After doing the above I have voltage (obviously ranging) on the left rear indicator but bulb does not light! I've tried making a local ground and no change....even holding known good bulb against wire and ground...

Short of cutting in to the relevant wire upstream, testing and/or running a parallel wire.... I don't know what else to check!

Are my assumptions wrong or any other ideas ?

I suspect you have a high-resistance joint upstream of the indicator. When you're working with things like this a voltmeter doesn;t show the completel picture - you can have voltage but insufficient current to light the indicator.

Use a proobe-type test lamp with a sharp point. This will light if you are getting the proper amount of current/voltage. The sharp probe tip will let you get up inside connectors and through wire insulation if need be as well.

Just work your way upstream and you'lll find it - odds are you've got a corroded Lucar or the like keeping things dark.

From memory all the rear indicators / sidelight & brake wires have a set of bullet connection behind the small triangular panel on the rear right side of the tub (where the rear wiper motor wiring goes if you have one). its also where the towbar wiring gets its feeds from. You may have a poor/corroded contact it there. its only about 2 screws and one nut to get the cover off.

Thank you @Wattfield, @mrchurchill109 and @kwakerman

The Landie has been re-chassis'd with a Galvanised frame... electrics are original but run outside, along the top/side of the frame.

My pointy light probe thing... doesn't seem to work! never used it before, other than picking something out of my teeth ;-) typical, when I have a need, it's dud. most likely the bulb as there is not much more to it.

Poking around with the faulty probe I did manage to get the indicator working! a success of a sorts.
At least I know where the cable issue is... it's where the main cable pack from the front splits and feeds the right lights and towbar... then another split to the left rear.

I can't make it 'break' now! have tried to prod and wiggle a bit.
Will let it run for a while and then when I get an hour free, strip that whole section back to single wires and get the probe fixed/replaced.

Thank you, nice to share and know I'm not on my own
