freelander 03, when i go to car first thing in morning the back wheels are regularly seized, after a bit or rocking in first/ reverse there will be a loud clunk and it will be fine for rest of day.
Have taken off drums and there does not appear to be anything seized, the cable does appear to run free and a reasonable amount left on the shoes
I know this has come up before in the Forum but there has never been solution
Has anyone else had same problem and found a solution
cheers

Many reports of the pivot on the handbrake lever (within the drum) sticking.
I had a problem with the retaing clip being too tight which prevented the springs moving the shoe over the backplate.

had this with mine took the drums off, and sprayed wd40 in around all the workings until it was running out, don't spray on the shoes wire brushed the drum and put it all back together that was a fortnight ago and have no problems since

you need to take your pivot lever off[both sides] and lubricate them, they are the problem,i had exactly the same problem with mine,i replaced the old pivots with new ones as the existing ones where seized solid.you may have to replace if the brakes keep sticking on,mine used to make a hell of a bang when they released and the handbrake was as much use as an ashtray on a motor bike until it was sorted.not a hard job to do---Dave

I removed the handbrake pivots which were seized, heated them with a blow torch, dipped them in oil and refitted them. Working fine now.

thanks for all he replies, sounds like pivot levers are most likely cause, good to have a starting point when dealing with problems like this
