+1 the GM5 box is a huge weak point on the L322 - do a search on their associated problems!

The gearboxes are weak.

Just make sure you change the oil and filter every year to keep the oil clean.

Mine has a plug in chip and it works a treat.

Call me cynical but I reckon BMW specified the cheapest box that would suit the (lighter) X5's needs - stuff Range Rover.

Sounds about right

They just lowered the engine power in the L322 hoping it would outweigh the extra weight of the L322 compared to the X5

Thanks for the advise, just had my gearbox serviced by the dealer, what's this plug in chip you have giving you in improvement and where could I get one?

Think it maybe illegal to remap any vehicle manufactured after 2004 if it increases emissions. Don't believe the more power better MPG ****e. Use the power use the fuel. Simples.

Thinking of having my 05 td6 vogue re mapped, anyone else tried this and if so was it worth doing?
Mine is an 03 and bin mapped 230 bhp td6 when the gearbox goes get it sorted i love the extra power you should enjoy then for what they are if you are scared or breaking them you shouldent have a range rover

+1 exactly ;)

I don't necessarily always use the extra power that's available.

230BHP ?

Didn't know you could get that out of these engines ?!

Yep pulls like fcuk, I never use the power from standing still that is just asking for trouble being 2.5 tone you wouldn't like to push it would you, but it is nice to have the power on tap for overtaking and that, with all the traffic and speed limits you don't get much above 50 anyway:rolleyes:

If I want to go really quick I go out on my bike :D

My Busa has a stage one DSD nitros system - for off road use only of course - ahem... Acceleration from 40-160 in 4th is something else! :D
Nice !! mine got sorted down the road at silverstone TTS, well they do 190 standard on my year :D you would have to pay 200,000 for a car to keep up with it, my mate has a 2012 Nissan GTR mapped and he carn't keep up in a straight line that really pi--es him off he said he would have to pay out another 10,000 to get to your speed :p
