Good to see you back up and running.
That’s always a problem when we do new stuff the first time, you always doubt your own work and hear some new noises:)

Drive it and a quick check next weekend ( your own doubt on anything not done properly, I do it:))

Then get on with life, till the next problem ( lets be real we know it’s gonna happen:D)

Cheers dude, I think that's why it took me so long, I tripled checked everything and cleaned and greased everything I could lol

If I check everything I doubt next week it'll take me another 3 days :D sound advice

Next issue is hopefully just the rear prop :rolleyes: the centre bearing has loads of play

Life hack! If your fluid syringe hose won't go in yer 'ole, grab a spare fitting off a td5 fuel filter housing and a jubilee clip :D

Balancing act, did 680ml as if from dry and it just started to seep out the fill hole. Hope that's right!

Ref the front and rear diffs I didn’t realise that either at first till I read it a while back in the service manual about having to measure the oil out, however the filler plugs I believe are virtually near the volume anyway

Thanks! Plan next is rear prop, engine service and gearbox/tbox/rear diff oil change and try and sneak a gap iid past the missus as well :rolleyes: need to do discs and pads all round on the beemer and service as well :eek:
 
And it all goes to rat shìt.

Broke down about 2miles from home, front prop is spinning but driveshafts aren't moving and the noise is....unhealthy.

There's been some grease thrown around the nearside wheel arch/chassis leg as well.

I never touched the nearside driveshaft, but the front prop spinning without any drive going thru the diff - pinion bearings?

Need to leave for work for half 1, rac on way :(

cv grease is the give away , my guess is the drive shaft cv joints has failed internally and the shaft is spinning inside the knuckle and has split the cv boot spreading the grease, just means a new shaft

reason it wont drive is the power takes the way of least resistance through the damaged joint, happened to me on my old vw golf, sounded like the diff had gone but was just the shaft same symptoms of shaft wouldn't move even in gear

I may be wrong but i doubt will be diff if cv grease spread far and wide
 
Try putting it in Mud and ruts to lock the centre diff, you should get drive to the back then....

Just tried all programs mate, still no drive.

Rac dropped me outside the house, ive pushed it onto the drive with the little bmw! Got to go work now, heads spinning

Sounds like cv joint, had same on my D3, no drive when gone. Fitted a complete driveshaft and all good

That’s a pain after all your latest work. But don’t doubt your work first, if you never touched that side and something seems to be showing as what guys have suggested and not your work.

On a side note I was under the impression that 1 or 2 of the modes would lock center diff too. Need to go and pull up my 322 screen and take a look for my own future ref.

Haha, i was a bit pìssed off at first but now not too fussed the mate, it's just a car and can be fixed! I wasn't late to work or unsafe so happy days lol

Have a look for me mate r.e centre diff I'm at work now. It's murder, in a production line with too much time to think the worst :rolleyes::D

Also would it be prudent to whack a new axle extension tube on the offside as well? As it's got a bearing in it.

Obviously all this is academic until I get it on my flat bit of drive with mateys van and have a good look
 
I changed just the 1 side, passenger front if memory serves me,
It was over 18 months ago and no problems.
When my cv went it triggered the mil lamp with fault relating to gearbox speed sensor, mines an automatic.

might as well; while its in the air

re the drive shaft bearing only car ive ever seen those fail on are mk1 focus's so you might get away with it but then it is problery enduring more torque then any one of those will ever put out

Hmm, it looked fine when I had diff out. I'll go for both driveshafts I think, middle ground as it wife's birthday this weekend as well :eek:;)
