Anyone know what size disklok I will need? large? thanks!

All you need to do is measure the diameter of your steering wheel, then order the Disklock that fits it. If you can, get the one with half moons welded on the underside so it can't be wriggled off the wheel. I put an old tee shirt on my wheel before fitting my Disklock to protect it as some people have reported that their wheels have been marked by the Disklock.

I don't have it yet so I can't do that otherwise I would have! :) I want to get all the security sorted before it's delivered :) good tip on the tshirt! Thanks :)

Hi all,

Just to go back to the sticky topic that ratty started regarding security devices. Unfortunately it seemed to go off topic and withdrawing some tangible data from it is difficult. To redress the question...

Who can confirm if Land Rovers are being successfully stolen with a Clutch Claw and/or Stoplock/Disklock and/or GPS tracker????????

I read so much about peoples Land Rovers being stolen and I can't really coin whether they had any security on or not. Initially they are expensive yes and may act only as a deterrent but surely you would do anything you can to save the heartache afterwards?!?

If we can please not go off topic on this thread - I think some useful information can be gained here - Hopefully just to give people a nudge so that they wake up and realise their car is sought after!!

(Reposted this here as Stolen Section I guess gets less hits. Post is hoped to be for the good of all!!)

In the next episode of Land Rovers Live we are testing physical security devices.
So far we've got disk locks, clutch claw, stop lock, Big Chain. If there's something else you'd like us to put to the test do let me know and ill jump on the phone.

This may sound naive but shouldn't the new models be harder to steal what with the two different types of alarm on them?

I've also got a new one being delivered in a month or so and wasn't expecting to have to scrote-proof it as I did with older models...

Firstly, I don't believe it is Naive... I think it is perfectly reasonable. However, I suspect that, like every other time that a security device is fitted generically to all vehicle of a particular type - once a scrote finds his way around it... then it becomes common knowledge:confused:

Its simple abus granit u locks concreted into driveway positioned under each axle then secured over each axle with abus high security chains and locks not some cheap rubbish.

you cant use an highhab and you cant use a petrol angle grinder because of the noise and its going to be very hard to get under your landie to use the grinder plus the noise it will make will be too much for the theives they like to creep about.

all in it will prob cos about £500 and unless they come with oxy they aint having it thats what i use on my s2a and have also been useing on all my past bikes and i havnt lost one yet in over 15yrs an bolt cutters wont even touch them no matter how many theiving gorrilas are swinging off them .;)

I was wondering if anyone has tried to mount anything over the doors. I'm doing a six months trip in the defender and it's not in anyway secure and could never really be.

I was considering fitting something on the door pillers by the windscreen, between the doors, and just behind the middle doors, so my long waffle boards could be secured at all three points and act as window cages plus a way to prevent someone opening the doors.

Has anyone done something similar? I was thinking secure mounts bolted to the car and then paddlock through the large bolt that the waffle is secured to.

ideas?

Hi mate:

When I need to secure people's doors, either the loading area or the front doors, I tend to use a solonoid lock. This is basically a cylinder that houses a piston. When a voltage is applied on one direction the piston moves outward and locks the door. When it is applied in the other direction the reverse happens.

Obviously, I am using them as part of our tracking system security system, but you can easily wire them up to operate from a remote control key fob instead.

I would be happy to chat to you on the phone about it if you wish... and also... should you like to provide folks at home with details of your journey online, we can arrange that too... (Unashamedly advertising here!)

Hope this helps a little

Where is the trip going to/from?

Trip is from Vladivostok to uk. In a very wavey route.

I'm trying to use things for more than just one reason and the waffles seem like a good window cage and a way to stop the doors being opened.

Don't really have the money to do very much. Just thought this could deter a window smasher or a lock basher.

Peeler mechanic i know swears by having a valve on the fuel line at the tank on his series landy... says if you have an isolator etc. The car doesnt start they then search for the isolator bypass it and drive off, the valve means they can start it drive off then conk out hopefully on a main road where they wont have the privacy to sort it... of course they can still load it onto a truck

I've only recently rejoined face-ache (new year), and I'm alarmed (no pun intended) to see we're up to a few thefts per day across the country. Is anyone getting a feed from landywatch or the police on what security devices were overcome? or is the assumption that there were no security devices fitted in the vast majority of cases?

I do have the eureka immobiliser on the disco not sure about fitting a disc lock to be honest I've just purchased a 125mm battery powered angle grinder with low profile head and it's the muts nuts put a cutting disc on it and will go through most security devices and only cost 400 quid that's the thing now the new tools available

Looks like a quiet thread here. Where Landy thefts are continuing off the scale have been re-thinking my D90 security. Currently have HD pedal lock, Disklok, multi-function tracker and am going to sink/cement 2x HD posts into the driveway and HD chain the rear axle [the Landy's kept in an industrial car tent]. Tonight I came across the Bisley Alarm Mine - I like the look and sound of one or two if these strategically placed. Anyone else use these? Anyone had a premature detonation?

Then alarm guns are good. Strong Fishing line to the firing release & place about waist height so a dog won’t set it off.
In the old landrover I had 1 attached inside & armed to the back door.

Thanks Phil, have just YT'd the alarm mines. I think two of these strategically placed would really do the job, one external leading to the Defender, one hidden internal for when I'm away.

though have to confess, if I was at home and thieves arrived I'd have a little chat with them :D
