A pal of mine had a big workshop with a proper pit in it. One morning he opened up the workshop and found someone had broken in at the back. He heard moaning and found the scrote lying in the pit with 2 broken legs.......RESULT! Only problem was that the git sued him and cost him a lot of money. Now his insurance company demands that the pit is boarded over when the place is secured. There's no justice. Pity he didn't break his neck.
 
Surely u could put a small warning sign up as a disclaimer saying there is an uncovered pit/ fall hazard ala wheel clampers style
 
Open jerry can with petrol init - the fumes will be heavy and linger long enough to cause slow painful death......... Too far??
 
Spoke to local bobby in Asda car park about security and theft. He said my Grab-lock was useless as thieves carry portable angle grinders; same goes for lock to gearbox; Ardlock for Pedals is very good (at least I had one good thing) as it takes so long to drill even with high power drill and thieves want a quick in and out. In built alarms take 30 seconds to immobilise using iphone and android technology; best alarm is a simple shed alarm as cannot be tampered with externally. Park with full lock to left or right to prevent landie being rolled or dragged on to trailer. Trackers are good so long as you report it within half hour and have a good signal in your area. He obviously had a good sense of humour as he then went on to tell me I could keep an alsation in the car or electrify it...:lol:
 
Shed alarm? More security is something I do need to get and ill definitely be looking into a pedal box soon. Is the ardcase good or would people recommend the x-eng one?

Got a shed alarm on line £9. Beeps and gives 30 seconds to enter code; depending where it is located depends on how fast a thief can whack it with a hammer. Forgot to reset mine in car park and started up to drive off when it went off - several people came to see what was going on as they sound like a smoke alarm so unlike a normal alarm (which everyone ignores) they do seem to attract attention. They all stood there whilst I climbed about to disarm it.

I have re used a vehicle tracker... made it trigger an internal locking system when I text it. Also monitors for internal movement....

Works a feckin treat!

X-eng one is there does not get in the way or fly around when green lanes or off road. and much safer in a accident, nothing flying about
 
Anyone tried a baby monitor in their landie when parked at home? One of my mates was getting his lid trashed by a cat so he put the baby monitor in - the noise of the cat woke him and he shouted 'get the f--k off my car' - cat fled at great speed never to return. Maybe this would be good security at home; would definitely make a thief jump.
 
To drive your vehicle away the thief has to sit behind the steering wheel operate the controls and steer it.
How if he/she is unable to sit behind the wheel say the seat is able to move forward covering the steering wheel with the back support and locked in position.
I know the frame strength would have to be beefed up to withstand an attack and on getting out of your vehicle you would have to do something newer vehicles have electrically moving seats.

Just for thought what do others think?

Well, with a Defender you could move the seat all the way forward and run a padlock and chain from the release bar on the front of the seat and through the steering wheel. Can't sit in the seat or steer. It's not high tech but it's simple to do and anything that buys you time is worth doing.... If you use a good heavy hardened chain and a good quality anti-pick padlock it's even better. Might be worth beefing up the release bar on the seat to prevent it being hack sawed.
With electric seats you can wire in a hidden cut-out switch to lock the seat after you have moved it to the fully forward and highest position.

You know the more I think about this the more appealing it gets.
I am going to get a S/hand seat and have a play with it.
1/ strip the seat and make the frame stronger to withstand some sort of attack, ensuring the original padding and cover will fit.

2/ modify the slide mechanism to accommodate the additional forwards movement required.

3/ develop a locking mechanism which is quick and easy lock in place.

4/ if this works look to automate it with electric motor/s.
