i didnt realise theifs came with a full tool kit either.and youd tighten ur wheels up with a pair of mole grips and think they wud stay on??? lol

Generally they don't, but they'll have a scout round a few days before to see what they might need to defeat your devious measures. Then the barstools will come prepared.

I'm thinking along these lines;-

Move battery to somewhere else, maybe under arches and sealed in with isolator so that no power can be taken from it to hot wire the pump.

Solenoid in fuel line to further delay things in case they bring their own battery.

Disc lock on steering wheel.

If they want it badly enough to get round all that then they will take it whatever:(

Sounds good.

Re Disklok - I saw a picture on another forum (thread removed now I think) of a beaten one - and it was a bit shocking!

Obviously no security measure is invincible, but anyone with a disklok and a welder should weld two 'half moons' into the back sections either side asap.

I'd prefer not to say anymore other than to clarify where to weld these shapes if it isn't clear...?

Tom

Based off what you just said. I came up with a possible idea.

Dislock but extended to cover the whole collumn on leaving the stalks exposed. Would cover the steering wheel, barrel and stop the steering lock from being broken. Making it bloody hard to getbto that area.

If they can't remove the disklok to steer it there isn't much value in them breaking the lock to start her.

Just welding in these half moons will make the world of difference.

In my opinion we need to:

Be alerted to an attempted theft instantly and make the vehicle resist being driven (either by steering lock/pedal or electronic immobiliser) for 2 minutes - minimum. If you can achieve that you are far, far more likely to still be the proud owner of your LR the following day.

Beyond that it needs to be unable to move either forward/back or up in the arms of a hiab - but the majority of owners can't achieve that.

What about a dirty great thick chain around the axle to a ground anchor - it would be hard to get the pressure on 3' bolt cutters while on your hands and knees - mind you, these battery grinders are getting cheaper :(

Bottom right of page - 16mm construction - I doubt you can even cut that with bolt cutters!?

Thats a bloody good point. Ill be on the half moons next weekend.

Chain idea is good and pretty easy to do in most places. Unless you park on a council road lol

Even with a battery grinder, like you said delay for 2 mins and youll be out there. + a grinder makes a lot of noise!

They do!

The video's on youtube of 16mm chains being beaten show folk jumping up and down on 3' arms and with all their body weight - not easy if it can be positions away from the wheels a foot or so.

These alarms that get beaten - I don't see why we can't fit one suitable for a motorbike under the drivers seat with a 6v battery - rivet the cover down and Bob's you uncle - they wouldn't be able to shut it up for quite a few minutes - or longer if they can't force or drill the rivets...

I have been reading about landrover thefts and was searching some forums and found this...
I have one fitted and if the alarm is triggered or there is a power down they phone you withing 10 mins..
if you go to GPS Tracker The tracker is normaly priced at £249.00, but If you enter discount code
"mac4x4" the purchase price is reduced to £124.00
There is a monthly subscription charge of £6.99 this can also be paid annualy at £74.00
The site also says they will transfer the tracker from vehicle to vehicle free of charge !!!!

hope this is useful to someone...

Ryder does a wicked system that can be personalised to the individuals requirements

GPS vehicle tracking and remote telemetry

I had the police in at work today, they had stopped some suspect lads in a car and upon searching the car found a Land Rover ecu and a 10AS unit. They were holding them in the cells and came in to ask me what the units were for, how they worked and why would they have them:rolleyes:
They were the usual TD5 defender ecu and alarm unit so I gave them a full detailed statement. The detective was shocked at how easy it is to take a Fender and siad that the statement was so informative that he was going to make it a circular and email it far and wide.
Funny thing is it was only about 12 months ago that another copper from Derbyshire Constabulary came in with a TD5 ecu and I plugged it in and told him the VIN of the Defender it was off which also turned out to be nicked.

I'm been chatting to a friend about the x eng pedal cover, and I'm really temped. Already got the column protector from them.

I see there is some info on pedal cover but not much - has any one got anything to add of recent experiences?

I know the landy can be pinched in a few ways that render it useless, but has anyone seen one removed, or found the remains of one after it has been defeated?

Pedal lock here >> http://www.x-eng.co.uk/StoreDisplay.asp?SL=120&MID=82

Thanks

My Disklok has just arrived for the fender, and I'm, going to be modding it (the lock this is) over the weekend - unless the wife interferes!

First aim is to weld in the 'half moons' (i'll take pics)

Second is to find the major weakness that it transpires only a few know about, and beef this up! There can only be a couple of places!

Any tips welcome!

Weak points of security devices are best discussed by Pm rather than the open forum

It is a bit of a catch 22.

If tips are shared via PM then the vast majority of members are none-the-wiser.

I think we have to assume more will benefit from the knowledge being open than being shut behind closed doors, and that the thieving scum all know how to remove a 'cap' (as I have read it had been called in the trade) already...

Cheers

I got a Fleabay special tracker :) yes its not going to stop it being stolen but you can set up a Geo-fence around it so if it moves out side you are told via phone.
no monthly subscriptions just keep it topped up, did a test and its accurate to about 10 meters which is better than when i tested my iphone.

the other one which i only thought of the other day is a proximity style alarm,
with a transmitter in your LR hooked up to what ever you want eg lights, horn, kill switch etc and a receiver/key fob so if your baby goes outside a set distance then all hell is let loose hopefully forcing them to ditch and run like hell :)

again not going to stop the theft but hopefully mean they wont get far.

Mmm. I had a mess around with the baby monitor set up. Unfortunately too many walls (2) between me and where I parked. The more expensive monitors are heading £75+
My last 90 was certainly targeted. She had additional deadlocks on the cabin doors. Full safari guards and a substantial load guard. Oh and the blinky red light!;)

I found the remains of my motor in woodland. Looking at what was left::mad:
Rear tub was mangled where the security locks had been holding the doors - they wanted the new doors.
They seemed to have attacked them from inside as well looking at the leverage marks.
To get into my 90. They must have picked the rear lock - not a security one. Cut thru the mantac load guard to get into the cabin.
The bulkhead remains up in the woods - the ignition lock and barrell are undamaged.
They spent a couple of days at most stripping my vehicle. When I found it, some parts were still stacked for collection.

My personal conclusion after reading all these posts really follows Rattys.

All you can do is 'make it difficult'. However my tact has changed with the replacement 90.
1st priority is immobilisation. I've gone for the x-eng gearbox lock for convienience. Thatcham cat2 immobiliser too.
Cheap tracking system. I agree that as an owner, dedication to retreival would be higher than a very busy police force!

The safari guards are going back on again.

Also - wheel locks. I have a key version now rather than the adapter type - which obviously is left in your vehicle and aids the wheels going walkabout quicker when the b'tards have your motor. Only slows em down - but another few minutes helps.

As funds permit. I want an audable warning system of sorts. Undecided at which one yet.

And once you have battled with your security - ah. The insurance!!!
