I`ve recently bought a 1995 disco, problem is top speed at 50mph it`s reving at 4000 which is not good, it`s modded for off road and I was told it has a defender transfer box on a recon g-box, would changing the transfer box to a discovery one make much difference? and how easy are they to change??

it would make a noticeable difference, its a heavy lump nut easier with a engine crane through the tunnel

Yes it would but you could also fit bigger wheels, what size tyres have you got fitted at the moment?

Transfer box is do-able by yourself, but as James says it's a bit of a heavy lump and hangs lop-sided onto the main box.

I've changed mine by myself, but it's as much as you want to do to hoist it up onto the gearbox stud.

I recently saw where someone made a wooden cradle to support the transfer box It was very impressive.
There was a picture but I can't remember where it is
Dam those Alluminium saucepans.

My Defender 1.4 TBox works great in the Disco with 315/70/17s (34.5").
